Would like to know which person or persons are responsible for the intransigence. Our program is losing kids at the same rate as schools that are undergoing/have gone through a coaching change....but we're not budging.

It may be good to remember that what a poll here says has no actual effect on decisions or actions TPTB and very little influence (if it is noted at all). There are some posters who seem to have a real vendetta against our coach that started almost immediately with his hiring. I can't believe there is anyone who could say they are pleased with the W/L results of men's hoops over the last three years. However, I do hope things can be reversed in the coming season. Thepossibility that there is a plan to improve HC hoops in progress seems to be beyond the realm of possibility (since it has never seemed to be considered here).

This is all so ridiculous....Nelson needs to be fired tomorrow....if we retain him for 22-23, you know we basically don't care about men's hoop anymore as an institution. What evidence is there or has there been that shows basketball is a priority right now for the athletic department? Content to play in an anonymous, crappy league. They are all in for football.

Isn't football in the same (as you put it) "anonymous, crappy league?"

I too hope that things improve next year.
But "hope" is not a plan.
It has been proven over a three year period that Coach Nelson is way over his head as a college head basketball coach.
Look at his record,
Why have 4 key players recently decided to vote with their feet and have entered the Transfer Portal?
Why? Because they see this coach in action every day and do not want to waste the rest of their college careers in a program run by this man.
If there were a "plan" to improve HC hoops, AD Kit Hughes would have already lined up by season's end several candidates to succeed Nelson and would have let him go immediately following our final game.
But no. Instead we are fed misleading emails from Nelson telling us what great success is ahead. What a farce.
So please don't tell me there is a plan. Please!

A possible timeline is Development requests the email and offers general guidelines including examples of past appeals. Nelson composes, submits to development for editing/approval then Nelson approves the updates and sends to the AD who approves and sends to legal for sign off. During this time the bombs may have dropped regarding transfers but nobody was interested in restarting the approval process, so send was hit. A good legal team would prevent the send button from being hit. They’d wait for a better time, then send the letter for one more lap around the office for further revisions, then send it. Layered levels of idiocy. At some point the coach signed off and should not have. I'm not sure what "legal" has to do with this. From a marketing stand point it was tone deaf, but I don't think corporate counsel wastes their time editing BN's emails.

. A degree from Holy Cross is nothing to sneeze at, even if the hoop team is struggling right now. Very easy for those of you who are mature adults to think ahead and recognize this fact. However, there are four 19-20 year olds out there who don't have the foresight to put this in their decision making process.

They have parents and advisors, n'est-ce pas? I wonder how many of the transfers would tell you "I really liked Holy Cross. I just couldn't stand Coach Nelson and the thought of playing for him for maybe the rest of my career was too overwhelming."

They have parents and advisors, n'est-ce pas? Predating the Nelson era, one parent told me the parents disagreed with their son's decision to transfer

Very embarrassing the two graphics embedded in that email as there were only 43 total donors and $35,500 raised for the program. Interest isn't dwindling. It's becoming non-existent. Anyone want to guess how many of these 43 are former players? My guess is “ next to none.” Most damning stat I've seen re: HC hoops. If that doesn't demand action, hard to believe anything else will.

Do we even know it's two years? I don't think we've ever seen confirmation on the length of Nelson's contract, have we?

We don’t know. It may be only for next year. Not wanting to pay two salaries is the only thing that makes sense. Otherwise he would be gone.

I am very surprised he is still here given the events of the last 2 weeks. I think it is safe to say what he and his staff are able to do in the next 3-4 weeks will largely determine their fate at HC unless they are just a total trainwreck when it comes to coaching a team in which case it basically doesn't matter who they bring in.

We don't know, but the thinking is if it was only one year left HC would be more likely to have started a search for a new coach.

I don’t know if he’d be the right guy for us but Andy Sachs has been very successful as a head coach at three different places since leaving HC.

Looks like the guy knows how to coach. You don’t put up a record like that without knowing how to recruit, develop players, and handle the X’s and O’s. Bring him on

Bethany 117-49 Salisbury 59-24 Chesapeake 41-12 He's been the right guy for everybody else. As well as HC when he was the senior assistant coach (but not Associate head coach) under Ralph, who may not have appreciated what a talent he had on staff. When Ralph left I looked at Andy's prior stops. He had never been a head coach, always an assistant, even for a high school team, but every stop he made had great winning records.

sachs has been a winner everywhere he has been and knows what it's like recruiting/coaching not only in the pl, but at hc in particular. he would be an immediate upgrade.

A revised email from Coach Nelson just arrived in my inbox. It mentions and lauds DJ, but alas no mention of the 4 players in the portal. I wonder who brought this oversite to his attention.
