The 2022 Women's National Invitation Tournament is an annual single-elimination tournament of 64 NCAA Division I Women's college basketball teams that are selected for the field of the 2022 Women's NCAA Tournament. The tournament committee will announce the 64-team field on March 13, following the selection of the NCAA Tournament field. The tournament first round is scheduled to start March 13 and end on April 2 with the championship game televised by CBSSN.
The 2022 Postseason WNIT field will consist of 32 teams that receive automatic berths - one berth from each conference - and 32 at-large teams.[2] All Division I teams will be considered for at-large berths, including those who are independent and/or are in the transition process of reaching full NCAA Division I status. The automatic berth will go to the team that's the highest-finishing team in its conference's regular-season standings, not selected for an NCAA Tournament berth though some of these teams may still receive an at-large berth into the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament. The remaining team slots will be filled by the top teams available.
Until Selection Sunday, the highest ranked team that failed to win its conference tournament is placed as the Automatic qualifier. If they are selected for the NCAA Tournament, they will be replaced with the team selected.[3]

With the men's team's season ending so early (Hard to believe Brennan went 3-0 vs HC and he's on the hot seat.) and the women's season ending unexpectedly early, we need this. I hope all games will be streamed on some service or televised.

The WNIT is 64 teams and the NIT is 32? Maybe because there's only 64 versus 68 in the respective Big Dances (which I think is supposed to change).

The WNIT is 64 teams and the NIT is 32? Maybe because there's only 64 versus 68 in the respective Big Dances (which I think is supposed to change). The NIT has less auto bids because if a regular season champs wins the league tournament that league's auto bid disappears. But the WNIT awards 32 auto bids and keeps going to the next best team when higher ranked teams qualify. That's the only reason I can think of for the difference.

The WNIT is affordable. Schools can host first and second round games for $6500 and $7500 guarantees and road expenses for all rounds are capped at $12,000. The Tournament organization covers the rest I guess.
Employee costs would offset ticket, concession and swag sales, but it would still be worth it to host if it's available.

The other New England teams to make it are BC, Maine and URI. Stony Brook, Columbia, and Seton Hall also are drivable.

Would they put the Ram-Crusader Trophy on the line for that game? Give Fordham a sporting chance to get it back. Until the fall anyway.

I doubt it would be a competitive game. I covered the Ivy Tourney this past weekend for Columbia and they have too much size for HC which would hurt the Crusaders.

HC was outsized in just about every game but figured out a way to win 20 of them.

Columbia/Fordham/Seton Hall/Fairly Ridiculous ....pairing those 4 up excluding anyone who played head-to-head already seems to be a no brainer in a tournament where costs are considered.
HC/BC/Quinnipiac/URI same thing. Which would mean HC plays Q and URI plays BC. SBU could get paired up against someone in either group as well, which leaves someone out of one of those mixes.
Then you have Maine, no idea what happens to them. I'm sure those kids are looking forward to spending Spring Break anywhere else but Orono.

A home game for Avery. What's the viewing option? Both IL and PL are on ESPN+ but I think it will be a subscription to FUBO. Worth it. There was a notice to watch the games on FUBO on the WNIT website. Smart partnership for FUBO if so. Fans from 64 teams who mostly never considered or even heard of FUBO will have to tune in.

I agree that Columbia is the better team but that doesn't mean they'll win. Anything can happen. I think it's a fun match-up and a good post season Ivy-PL game that has lots of upsides.
I think Columbia's ability to shoot is much more of a problem than any height advantage they may have. That's a pretty good shooting team.
