From a college hockey newsletter
Bentley G Jason Grande to Holy Cross (2 YOE) Grande competed for time at the start of the season but didn’t see any game action after Nov. 13 when Evan DeBrouwer and Nicholas Grabko solidified the position for the Falcons. He’ll have a chance to compete for the starting job at Holy Cross with Matt Radomsky in the portal. Grande will be up against Erik Gordon (who could return for his fifth season) and Thomas Gale, a freshman this past season. Grande never gained traction as a primary starter for Bentley, but his last year of junior hockey he posted a 2.07 GAA and .925 save percentage in 35 starts for the Amarillo Bulls (NAHL).

ASU = a demonstratively better program than HC Alaska Fairbanks, sorry IMO, no Fairbanks last made the tourney in 2010...Holy Cross last appearance 2006. These factoids about things that happened when the current players at both schools were in elementary school are fascinating. Keep ‘em coming! Super helpful. Neither school has a good hockey program at the moment. No one cares which one is slightly less bad than the other. The kid was a backup at HC and went from one bad team to another. I wish him well.

Quinnipiac hockey now/ HC hockey now
2003 Holy Cross to ECAC ours for the taking.
We throw up all over ourselves and Q get in.
Q wins a national championship and we now celebrate getting one of their castoffs.
There is idiocy and then there is HC athletic department idiocy.
At least we are in a league of our own there.

But not the major leagues like UConn and UMass Football. HC still had and has every opportunity to make a statement in the AHA like Chesney is making in the PL. Blaming the league we are in is limited only by the number of leagues we are in.

I wonder if this is the only time HC has beaten the eventual national champion in a team sport?

correct; should read "played in." My larger point? Irrefutable I'll take a crack at refuting. You really think HC is in a league of it's own in idiocy among all it's partner schools in the NCAA? In other words, head and shoulders above all other Athletic Departments in idiocy? The UConn $47 million deficit for one year isn't even in the running? The decision making that leaves UConn an FBS Independent and paying FCS HC $475,000 to drive forty-five minutes and whip their butt isn't even a close call? How about the idiocy that delivers an arbitration notice to UConn that they must pay Kevin Ollie $11 million...by the end of the week because UConn didn't even obey the contract they wrote? That's just the highlights of one other fine Institution nearby. HC Athletic policy isn't proven idiocy because a better proposal was accepted by the ECAC two decades ago. Quinnipiac has 9800 students compared to 3000 at HC. They don't have FB. That gives them much more tuition and fees revenue to invest in hockey and they have done well. What's proven is that the ECAC decision was a sensible one but I don't think that makes us idiots. HC is David vs Goliath in D-1 but starting to see some success with two league titles this year and two national post season appearances including one victory.

I love the purple colored glasses.
"You really think HC is in a league of it's own in idiocy" YUP It's game over after simply the BE turndown (x 2) Game, set, match. When one informs any college sports fan of that (those) decisions there is one of two reactions
1. "no way, that didn't happen."
2. after assured it did: "that's the dumbest move ever."
The ECAC debacle (was involved it was ours to lose and Fr McFarlane couldn't trouble himself to be present on campus when the ECAC team visited) was the whipped cream on dog poop.
oh BTW, right after you finish the HC self congratulatory "we are so pure and so holy,'' remember we are also so invisible.
athletic suicide.

Thanks for helping with the ECAC application. I agree those two decisions, the BE rejection and if Fr. M. blew off the ECAC visit for something trivial, were poor choices. Do you remember if Yale lobbied for Quinnipiac to give them an easy commute with a nearby team? And also if Colgate lobbied one way or the other for or against HC it's PL partner? Was it mainly better salesmanship or were there substantive reasons for the ECAC decision to add Quinnipiac?

the former
not poor salesmanship: NONE
AND now I get an email from the Athletic Department re: options for the rink
the rink expansion was IN THE ORIGINAL HART CENTER RENO; then scraped.
Paul Pearl recognized the lack of support and leaves.
Now "they are looking at it."
Do you know anything that costs less now than seven years ago, especially construction?
I have said this before.
Pretend HC is a business with a great product and an enviable position and market share.
Analyze "performance" over the last 50 years.
ANY Board would have ALL been fired multiple times.
Finally, this sadly, sums it up (VERY SADLY and unnecessarily!)
Chat with a successful well educated person in Pheonix, or St. Louis, or Seattle, etc and say "I went to Holy Cross."
Guaranteed response: "where's that?"
Educational institution malpractice.

Seemingly a very strong get for us. Well done by Coach Riga and staff. Played two games and didn't register a point. REAL STRONG GET Scored the game-winner today and ranked seventh in Atlantic Hockey in conference goals. Appreciate your valued input, but sticking with Riga going forward.
