Another example of Villanova’s rise in athletics with no sacrifice of their academic standing - we know about their men’s team but now their Women’s team ended UConn’s 145 game regular season league win streak and today they upset BYU in the Women’s tourney 61-57 They now play the Michigan - AU winner UConn had 6 players who played. Bueckers, Nelson-Ododa and Ducharme were all in street clothes. UConn beat them a month later, 70-40, with a full squad. Nova definitely a program on the rise. Not going to threaten UConn’s dominance in the Big East anytime soon.

It would be a positive if other programs in the BE make a move up the elite ranks - If you watched 'Nova in the NCAA's (win over BYU) there's no doubt they are a program on the move - same can be said of Creighton this season which finished very strong to the Elite 8 with wins over Colorado, Iowa and Iowa St. Now Seton Hall in the in the final game of the WNIT. No doubt UConn is not going anywhere with the players they get but let's hope the league has more balance like the SEC, BIG 10, ACC in the future

That results in very empty gyms The NCAA could integrate the tournament with each round having exactly the same amount of men's and women's games at each site. Tickets must be bought for multiple games as it is so that would mitigate low attendance while eliminating the current advantage of "home" women's teams. That would necessitate more first/second round arenas giving smaller venues like the DCU Center more chances to participate. Men’s basketball fans and women’s basketball fans are not the same people. You could make people buy tickets if they want to go to the men’s games. You cannot make them actually go to the games. Women’s basketball is not going to draw great at neutral sites in the early rounds. For the next four years, they are going to have only two regional sites each year with 8 teams at each site. Essentially, one site will host two regionals (Sweet 16 and Elite 8) at the same time. It’s a decent idea and the crowds will likely be pretty good. UConn fans who are there anyway will go watch a South Carolina game and vice versa.

Here are the future sites for the women. No more home games for UConn. Only Albany is driving distance from CT.
2023 Regionals: Greenville, South Carolina; Seattle, Final Four in Dallas 2024 Regionals: Albany, New York; Portland, Oregon. Final Four in Cleveland. 2025 Regionals: Birmingham, Alabama; Spokane, Washington. Final Four in Tampa 2026 Regionals: Fort Worth, Texas, Sacramento, California. Final Four in Phoenix.

There was a 2021 recommendation to the NCAA to have the men’s and women’s Final Fours at the same site. Assuming that means the same building rather than just the same city, that seems like a terrible idea for the women’s game. They are not going to fill NFL stadiums or even come close. Playing in NBA arenas is much better for now.

Turns out Geno is pretty good. Definitely a tall order to beat South Carolina. Not a good opponent to face when you’re short-handed up front but Paige is pretty good too.

Gamecocks cruising early 11-2. Huskies had Alicia Boston bottled up but she made her fourth attempt. Time out to re-group.

What's with the green letterman jacket the SC coach is wearing? Some social comment of some variety?

Bueckers and Fudd both sick. Fudd a little worse than Bueckers. Fudd looks terrible. Paige trying to will her way through it. Rebounding is killing the Huskies.

What's with the green letterman jacket the SC coach is wearing? Some social comment of some variety? She looks like Richie from Happy Days. Diana Taurasi looks like the Fonz with her black leather like jacket on ESPN2 where she and Sue bird are doing a Manning Brothers type commentary.

Not big on fashion but she can coach. The letter jacket says #52, perhaps she is honoring someone and winning the title for that person.

Definitely a huge disappointment after some really compelling games to get UConn to Sunday night.
