Demski joins AL in the portal, I assume as a grad transfer, but she might have 2 yrs of eligibility left as she did not play her sophomore year due to injury.

Demski had a decent spurt and I posted that she might have played herself into a grad transfer opportunity. I wish her luck but would have to place her on the bubble to get a scholarship.

I don't disagree, but these are strange days, a lot of teams have lost multiple players. I certainly wouldn't rule out D2 either.

Aren't five years worth of scholarship level basketball players trying to squeeze into four years worth of scholarships during the four year free Covid extra season of eligibility era? Wouldn't that make it tougher for players on the margins, from HS seniors through post grads, to get a scholarship?

This is the time and area HC (men's program and women's to a lesser degree) should be focusing on. Some scholarships from higher level programs won't be there to give out. Trickle down, so to speak.

6'3 Karla Vres in the portal from American as a grad transfer, She seemed to have a diminished role this season, don't know if due to injury or other player development.

6'3 Karla Vres in the portal from American as a grad transfer, She seemed to have a diminished role this season, don't know if due to injury or other player development. Karla played well last season and would have helped next season, but she was our third big. I'm sure she wants to play more than she did last year (11 mpg). We'll likely have another rotation player leave as well. Unfortunate, but that's what happens with a really deep team.

Since this is an HC board - does anyone know if Coach Magarity has any interest in studying names in the portal this cycle ?

Since this is an HC board - does anyone know if Coach Magarity has any interest in studying names in the portal this cycle ? Eight returning players, four seniors leaving, four incoming freshmen. No replacement for Kerry Flaherty's spot. I do seem to recall twelve scholarship players has been more typical than thirteen, but not sure about that. Our posters who monitor Twitter for mentions of HC don't report any WBB players in the portal posting they have heard from HC, but even if Coach isn't planning on adding anyone, keeping up with the portal is good due diligence as anything can happen to disrupt a planned roster.

MM has stated in the past that they will be looking at possible transfers. HC has never had 15 scholarship players, once or twice they've had 14. For that matter, I can't think of an instance they had 15 on the roster recently. Assuming no one else transfers, it would not surprise me if they had interest from a big or a proven scorer w/ 2/3 years of eligibility left they would happily do it. If not, I would look for them to add at least one more player to the committed class of '23, I assume a big if possible.

BG addressed the pros and cons of a large roster. He noted that the 200 minutes of playing time doesn't increase when you have more players. He also noted that culturally, being a non-scholarship player in WBB did not deliver the same rewards to the player as it did in MBB.

Indeed, although did at various times in his last few years carry 13-15 players, I'm sure in response to what seemed to be endless seasons where a number of players were out with injuries, although I think he only had 15 once, & only 14 were scholarship players (12/13 roster). Typically, HC has had 12/13 players.
