Bottom line on this, IMO - Coach needs to get an impact player off the portal for next season - we are losing 4 of the 8 players in the rotation and if we want to compete for a championship in '23 we need to improve the roster with one more piece

I hope they get one, if they don't, I'm sure it will not be for lack of effort.

Don't know if she was hurt, but thinking if she could not get on the court for 10-19 Siena, she really wouldn't be much help.

Three ND women enter portal (key subs). One is a senior, other a grad transfer the 3rd Jr. If key subs, not likely to go to a low mid-major.

I understand, but no grad for a grad transfer, maybe for a senior, if 2 yrs of eligibility, jr, sure, but if she's good, I'm guessing more likely into a power 5 or high mid-major. If Peoples we from around here, maybe, but she played 20 mins/game this year at ND. Anything is possible, but I'd guess not.

Coach Magarity and staff deserve praise for keeping the undergraduate roster intact so far this year. If the coaches deserve praise, seniors like A.L. and K.P. who have stayed loyal for four years and then entered the portal with full support deserve praise for setting a positive example. Especially for sophomores who might have options this summer (or might not). They have seen how you can "have it all" at Holy Cross. Get your degree and still transfer for grad school if you work hard and play well.
Our three current freshmen won't have the grad transfer option but it's hard to imagine they would receive a scholarship offer this summer. A one year offer to a graduating senior with four years of experience would seem to be a better investment for a team with an opening.
HC can't take a grad transfer or most likely an incoming senior, either of which would balance the classes and add experience. HC's unique obstacles makes this year's success even more impressive.

LS, did you mean Demski; or did Petro enter the portal as well?

LS, did you mean Demski; or did Petro enter the portal as well? Good catch. I meant Demski. I think there was an article on the website saying Kelly Petro is an Economics major and already has a job lined up in Finance via an internship she completed. That leaves Oluchi Ezemma. She was more productive than Demski but is four inches shorter. The very nice video about her indicated she is pre-med or a science and psychology double major, or both. That generates numerous positive paths forward. If I was a mid major coach, I would value a one year scholarship investment in Oluchi as a better investment than an incoming freshman forward that the coach had placed on the bubble of getting a hard scholarship offer or not. I remember an oft repeated piece of advice given me as a kid from an older relative: "Never chase after a streetcar or a woman, there will be another one along in a minute." There will be another class of freshmen along every year, but there's only a four year window when every D-1&2 college with graduate offerings can get four years worth of skill development, physical maturity and game experience for one season worth of scholarship.

Portal is a buyer's market right now for the big girls, to paraphrase Geno from a recent interview - there are 900 players in the portal, 300 of them are not going to end up playing in D1.

Portal is a buyer's market right now for the big girls, to paraphrase Geno from a recent interview - there are 900 players in the portal, 300 of them are not going to end up playing in D1. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that many of the players entering the portal have no expectation of playing D1. There are many who have already failed at the midmajor level and are looking to transfer down to D2 or D3. And there are also graduating seniors who put their name in the portal to see if they might get an offer for grad school, but who had no real expectations of it happening.

Using logical explanations for the rise in athletes in the portal? Shame on you. You should know that actual facts and logic have little place here.

Would you put Madison Demski in a little better position as a graduating senior because she is 6'3"? Also, if a D-1 senior graduates and goes to graduate school in their field at a fine D-3 institution, I bet some would find it hugely rewarding if they get their feet under them in the fall, organize their studies, teaching assistantship, etc. and find they can fit basketball in, to go out for the team and use all the skills they've gained over four years in D-1. Just an observation from someone who I think would have kept playing as long as I could if I was any good in any sport. Others of course could be burned out and love the freedom they feel after playing and practicing basketball most of their lives, which is very understandable.

6'3 Karla Vres in the portal from American as a grad transfer, She seemed to have a diminished role this season, don't know if due to injury or other player development. Karla played well last season and would have helped next season, but she was our third big. I'm sure she wants to play more than she did last year (11 mpg). We'll likely have another rotation player leave as well. Unfortunate, but that's what happens with a really deep team. In a modest surprise, based on previous comments by AU, Taylor Brown, 6'1 forward into the portal as a grad transfer

Demski joins AL in the portal, I assume as a grad transfer, but she might have 2 yrs of eligibility left as she did not play her sophomore year due to injury. I can't say I'm shocked, Steph Davis, raising Jr into the portal. Unfortunately, suffered through an injury plagued 2 years at HC, deserved better as I believe she is very talented,. Best of Luck This greatly increases the likelihood of HC adding a player, whether through the portal or from class of '22

Hopefully, HC was as good to Davis as they've been to other kids in the past who weren't healthy enough to contribute. Best of luck to her.

Plenty of minutes will be open for Davis to compete for without too much known competition at HC.

Emily Fisher now in the portal as a grad transfer. Losing both Brown & Fisher reduces the changes of AU to be the leading candidate for the title next year. AU had not signed anyone for the class of '22, expect to see a couple of transfers in

Not shocked, but very surprised. Seems she would have had her opportunity to contribute next season
