What's the logical plan B, not for Ms. Davis particularly but for any player who has potential but little production for two years and enters the portal?
If a player has a spot lined up, they probably could just announce their transfer without even entering the portal or announcing that step if they do enter it. I haven't heard that the portal eliminates a student athlete's option to transfer and receive a scholarship from a new school without entering the portal.
I would judge Davis as less likely to snag a scholarship for next year at a new school than Demski. I hope both find a good situation.

It's disappointing. We obviously had a great chance of repeating in the PL next season–and, I thought, if we could add an impact transfer, have a chance at winning a tournament game. But, people change their minds, and life goes on. Love Fish and Taylor and Karla (and another player will be going into the portal in the next day or two), and thank them for helping us get that third 'ship this year!

You are dialed in, NotJuanJones. You're right, life moves on as players do quite frequently these days. American was going to be fun next year but now it means new faces and step in and up. Sorry about the next one to announce. Her absence is going to sting although Fish could arguably be the more impactful departure of the two.

Loyola has 5, Edwards as a grad transfer, Jr McTeer, Fr Price, Sophs Roberts & Sieper Now 6, as Soph guard Bella Steidle in Up to 7, as Fr guard, Keegan Douglas now in the portal. Looks like Loyola will have a dramatically different team next year as 9 (assuming the 2 other graduate & move on) out of 13 leave, total rebuild under O'Banion

Looks like Loyola will have a dramatically different team next year as 9 (assuming the 2 other graduate & move on) out of 13 leave, total rebuild under O'Banion I hypothethized in another thread that the more players a team replaces, the higher their talent level will be for the next season. A huge assumption obviously based purely on the higher number of athletes seeking D-1 scholarships for next season than D-1 scholarships available and the corresponding strong bargaining position of teams with openings. The real advantage would seem to be with the team that culls less talented players and replaces them with more talented players. Comparing HC to teams that can keep their own players as grad students for a fifth year, HC fared poorly losing their best player in AL and a solid rotation player in MD to grad transfer. But based on what is possible for HC, Coach Magarity only lost one player (SD) who was outside the main rotation this year but could have started next year. A solid B+/A- so far for our regular season championship coach?

Having difficulty following the logic of this post. I've heard that before. I mean while the free Covid extra year of eligibility is available there are five classes of players seeking the same amount of scholarships that traditionally go to four classes of players. Thus schools with scholarships available should be able to bargain for a more talented player than usual. The second point is that Coach Magarity has done a good job of retaining her players while the portal explodes with activity, such as at AU. And HC has a good opportunity to trade up in talent to replace SD. Even though her talent and potential is hard to discern accurately due to injuries.

I don't see where HC is any different at all than AU. AU's transfers are all players who will graduate this spring. HC is losing the players in that category in similar fashion. The PL in general has not been losing many players other than those who are graduating.

Oops, I read the post about Loyola losing many players but put down AU in my post instead. I suspect a lot of the Loyola players are being pushed out by their new coach. I would love to see any or all of the players being pushed out raise a huge stink about it. Why don't the players give the coach the same response those Ukrainian soldiers on the island gave to the Russian warship captain? Why let the coach intimidate them off the team with the only document showing it is the player voluntarily giving up the scholarship by filing for the portal? Make the coach affirmatively do it in writing and take responsibility. If a low D-1 school like Loyola is taking a Player's scholarship away, what chance does that player have to get an equivalent one in the portal? Don't get me started but the AD and President have a higher responsibility to the student than to the coach they just hired. I'll take your suspicion as Gospel and root against this coach. I have no suspicion Coach Magarity pushed HC's undergraduate in the portal off the team.

Hard call, it's clear that other than ROY Therien, few of these kids flourished in O'Banion's system. The fact of the matter is they were a terrible team 5-24 and their only 2 PL wins. Very few of their players exhibited D1 talent, but wasn't much impressed by the coach either. That said, only 2 of the underclasswomen had played any meaningful mins, one never set foot on the floor. I'm sure some of the players were just as interested in moving on, no push necessary. If you can't get on the floor on a 5-24 team, I think that' a pretty good sign of what the future holds.
MM certainly gave a nudge to Flaherty, Davis is a mystery, I think she has 4 years of eligibility left, redshirt as a Frosh, so she can get a clean start. She wasn't able to get on the floor, didn't play the last 6 games, we may never know if that was injury related of coach's decision.

I interpreted the info we received third hand on the board about Flaherty's departure to mean the coach was honest in her assessment of potential future playing time for the player and the player decided to leave the team but not the school and try her hand at another school as a grad transfer in two years.
There was no replacement of the player and the team was slightly worse without a three point specialist off the bench so if it was a nudge it backfired for last season at least.
No way of knowing the exact dynamics between coach and player.

I think it's best to refrain from posting '3rd hand info' - it's not very common at HC to suggest to a player to move on but I do hope the staff is looking aggressively at the portal - our 22-23 roster right now has 11 players (7 returning and 4 frosh) - just not enough bodies

I think that "3rd hand info" was pretty reliable, more than most of the stuff posted on this board. That said, no suggested that MM ran her, rather, did in fact give her an assessment of what to expect. Based on that, she left the team & put her name in the portal. What the future holds will be determined over the next few weeks.
And yes, I hope they can pick up a player or two, whether from the portal or from the class of '22. Signing period starts next week so I guess we will know soon.

HC's late season drive to the regular season crown was masterful, exceeded expectations and is a credit to coaches and players alike.
In the last two disappointing defeats HC shot 2 for 16 and 4 for 20 from behind the arc. In the '20-21 season Flaherty had an overall FG% of .481 and .421 on three point shots. If a year of reflection changes outlooks and the available slots can't be filled with quality players, I wouldn't mind Coach re-recruiting Kerry for her senior year which would leave her with one or two years left as a grad transfer.

Stranger things have happened, but a pretty small subset of data to base it on, she only took 27 shots. If IRC, the thing that kept her off the court was defense, she was not very fleet of foot.
I do agree that they need to add either a scorer/shooter or a big at the least.

A substantial number of portal entrants derive from this sort of situation. (Another very common situation involves the mid-major who wants to ‘move up’.) That also is part of the explanation as to why, when the player enters the portal, they nearly always leave.

Other than BU, the grad offerings at PL schools with graduate courses must be limited, so it's better to go somewhere to study something that fits you rather than to squeeze a square plug in a round hole just to play another year for Alma Mater. That helps level the playing court for HC.

Here's a new name who could end up at HC: PG Rachael Rose who was ROY in the Big South this year at South Carolina Upstate. Rose was an all-state player at Scranton Prep. She apparently is transferring because her coach just left for the job at Buffalo. In the past 48 hours, HC Women's Basketball started following her.
Other than possibly Buffalo, the most logical landing place for her likely would be Bucknell, as she is very close friends with Bucknell's Cecelia Collins - who played with her for many years at Scranton Prep and for the NEPA Elite and who is also her cousin. Also her family knows Bucknell coach Trevor Woodruff well from the 15+ years he coached in the Scranton area - including four years at U. of Scranton, when his teams went 113-10. I know her Dad has followed the Bucknell program fairly closely. However it doesn't appear that Bucknell has any available scholarships at the moment.

That helps level the playing court for HC. Both American and Lehigh have extensive graduate programs. Thanks, assumed they were limited. American offers ten masters programs you can complete online. You can even get a Ph.D online at American. Is an online graduate student eligible to play basketball? How about an online undergraduate degree candidate? That would put HC further behind the 8-ball as we have no online degrees I am aware of. Hopefully you can only play intercollegiate sports as a full time residential student.
