As it stands now heading into the end of May, we have 7 returning players (only 4 of whom were contributors) and 4 incoming frosh - maybe the staff is content with the 11 woman roster and have faith that the first-years are ready to contribute imme

I think the team over achieved last year with Labarbera leading them. This season will be a challenge but will be happy to be pleasantly surprised again.

It's disappointing. We obviously had a great chance of repeating in the PL next season–and, I thought, if we could add an impact transfer, have a chance at winning a tournament game. But, people change their minds, and life goes on. Love Fish and Taylor and Karla (and another player will be going into the portal in the next day or two), and thank them for helping us get that third 'ship this year! AU's Fischer lands in the Big 12 at TCU. TCU wasn't very good last year so should get a decent chance to play. Best of Luck!

Her first three recruits have scored 58 points so far. HC had a solid class the year before with Cara, Janelle and BPC. The incoming Freshmen have a golden opportunity and it would be great if Coach can pull a rabbit out of the portal hat.
Fortunately any advantage a slick recruiting coach can gain initially can now be easily reversed via the portal after the first year. The disadvantage of having a coach whose strength is team building, game planning and in game coaching but whose weak area is recruiting is reduced these days.

Welcome Callie! Didn't see a lot of action in her 2 years at Memphis, but looks to have good size, 6' 1 forward, hopefully she can blossom at HC - 3 years of eligibility left. First Canadian player in a while, since Ashley Brennan-McBride '07

First Canadian player in a while, since Ashley Brennan-McBride '07 Played only in six games with an average of 1.3 ppg. Played a season high SIX minutes against Florida A&M. She saw more action as a freshman appearing in 14 games with an average of 1.4 ppg.

All reasonable reasons to transfer to another school. If your time on the court is decreasing year over year, that sends a clear message the coach thinks he/she has better players. While some players are willing to accept that, many aren't and the transfer portal is their way to go.
Don't necessarily agree with that but that's the new way of doing things.

The last late addition we attained from another college's clutches worked out well.

Says her father played 9 seasons in the CFL so she may have tough genes. That wouldn't be a bad thing.

Next time you’re snapping pics at an HC game, you should really let Coach know that she should be consulting you before making any offers. Your tried and true method of reading box scores is obviously missing from Coach’s assessment process.

For the 12th position on the roster I was hoping we could have reached higher - but time was running out and Callie looks to have some potential- Memphis not known for great academics so she’s enrolling as a soph - there might some shock when she sees the workload

I wonder if Callie's decision may have also been effected by a coaching change (she was recruited by former AU coach Melissa McFerrin who retired after the '21 season). Three of the 4 recruits (including Callie) from her class have transferred. Coach Merriweather seems to have decided to rebuild her roster with 3 transfers & 3 frosh.

Steph moves up to a team that won a game in the NCAA tournament in March. I'm impressed. She bet on herself and succeeded. Congratulations.
Now I hope Bubba finds a home.

Interesting that her tweet does not mention where these teammates and coaches she refers to were from. Scholarship or walk-on ?

Longwood will be a different team this coming season, new coach (former coach took over St Louis), 4 transfer out, including 2 following old coach to St. Louis. Still, looks like they have a pretty good returning group. Unfortunately, Longwood is one of those schools that purge transfer bios from their site.

I would generally consider this to be a lateral move - Massey rates the Big South as one of the lesser conferences at #34 vs PL @ 26 last year, a bit of a down year for the PL. Longwood, ranked #1 in the conference came in at 211, vs HC at 191 & Bucknell (#1 ranked) @ 134. One might also say that just about every transfer into the PL for the coming season. Steph never saw the floor her frosh year due to a very late pre-season ACL tear. She was looking to likely be a starter or early rotation player. I think she struggled with string of minor injuries last season & eventually lost out as the season progressed & the bench shorten. She had a very good HS career. I will be intersested if she gets off to a good start w/ the Lancers.
