When I read the title to the email I just received, I thought that Nelson was about to come clean on the 4 recent transfers.
No.
The following paragraph was corrected:
"Although we had the youngest team in the Patriot League, we made major strides this year. We have a great foundation to build on, with only two graduating seniors in Malcolm Townsel and DJ Hart. Malcolm always gave his all on the floor and we appreciated his loyalty and passion for Holy Cross. DJ was an integral four-year member of the program and was a great example of dedication and selflessness. Off the court, they were both successful in the classroom and great ambassadors of our program on campus. We wish them both well in their future endeavors as they complete their degrees and graduate in May."
So not only did Nelson not put DJ Hart in the game on Senior Day, he omitted him from the email he sent out to potential donors.
I wonder who brought it to Nelson's attention? Perhaps DJ's parents?
It is further proof of what a sad excuse Nelson is not only as a coach but, in this case, as a human being.
Our players deserve better.

Shows you what he thinks of DJ.
Is it a surprise so many players have transferred?

This is beyond embarrassing. If you are referring to the seemingness list of "attack" posts, I agree completely. Personal attacks against posters used to be out of bounds on Crossports. I am sad to see that disappearing. I know there are those who do not support the coach and feel he should be let go now. Saying it over and over and over accomplishes little and does not add anything to a discussion IMHO. I wish you well and hope you recover quickly from your embarrassment.

IMO, typical of the missteps we see coming out of the athletics department. There is zero attention to detail, doesn't seem to matter who the AD is

Is anyone surprised?
Kit should start immediately planning a DJ Hart bobblehead night. Have it be Senior Night 2023, fittingly Nelson's last stand at the Hart Center.

Probably only need to buy 10 dozen bobbleheads by that point.

He has to make them accountable for details in each of their areas of responsibility.

Wait a second, per Crossports Expert Insider Clock Tower, Nelson didn’t write the email, so let’s not blame him. If anyone thinks Nelson wrote the email himself, or reaching out was his idea, you're nuts. Written by someone in athletic development, and Nelson was told to send it. He may have not even read what "he" sent.

There is zero attention to detail, doesn't seem to matter who the AD is Who knows whether Nelson even composed the original email. Those are boilerplate emails being sent out by all the head coaches in the past several weeks. However, if he didn't, he should still have checked it before it went out under his name.

He may not be the only one who erred here, but he's not free from criticism either.

We don't have enough information to assign blame, but that's a gigantic error by someone.... as evidenced by the fact that they felt the need to correct it.
Count me among those who think if it goes out under Nelson's name, he's got to read it and be accountable for it.

To the best of my knowledge, emails tied to fundraising are sent out by the Office of Advancement, which maintains the master lists of donors and their e-mails. As i mentioned supra, emails are being sent to past donors to a sport, and these have gone out over the past several weeks. Here is an excerpt from baseball

/\ /\ Undoubtedly there is a lot of coordination between the Advancement [nee Development] & Athletics for fundraising purposes. Several years ago, Development hired a staffer to coordinate this fund raising. Under FADNP the staffer was transferred over to Athletics to run its fund-raising events and oversee CAF. I believe Athletics has its own lists [past & present ticket holders, attendees at various events such as outings]. These sometimes get merged with Advancement's lists.
I'm sure someone is spending a lot of time on 'Fuel the Momentum'.

HOW DOES THE [coach, AD, admins, assistants, marketing, advance, alumni services] NOT KNOW WHO IS ON THE D1 BASKETBALL TEAM?
Granted, there have been a ton of players here one minute, gone the next, hurt, playing, disappeared, abducted by the CIA and put into a blacksite location for interrogation never to be heard from again, etc.... but this seems like the CEO of a big corporation not knowing who his rank-and-file employees are, except the business can't turn a profit and the stock is tanking.

Lose- lose
It's easy for outsiders to overlook the walk ons. We do it here sometimes when we break down the roster by year or position.
Someone in the basketball program messed up by not proofreading the letter and catching it. I didn't get the letter, but reading here, I didn't catch the oversight. Now they're stuck. 1/2 of the people like me were thinking about Townsel as the only graduating senior we saw on the floor. The other half remembered DJ and even though he didn't get into games that often was still part of the program and hopefully pushing his teammates in practice to be their best.
Now you're stuck. The second letter appeases the 1/2 that caught your mistake, but at the same time, you're telling the other half that you messed up a pretty simple task

I'm not upset about the apology, it's the right thing to do after the wrong decision was made. But the wrong decision shouldn't be made in the first place. We all make mistakes. HCMBB program has made too many.
