Re: The list of commitments with not a single transfer to HC reminds of TS Eliot's "April is the cruelest month." Joe Octave is transferring from Air Force to HC. Yeah, I know. I was referring to the list of commitments above submitted by WG. It might be difficult to attract commits for a coach who is perceived to be in his lat year. Still, we can hope for the best.

Don’t lose hope MM. The school next to the player’s name is where they are transferring from.

Fond memories of the Governors - and their fans - when they appeared in the Tournament. I'll be rooting for them in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Let's go Peay!

He may look good in a uni, but Did you look at his Iona stats ? And he was playing for one of the best coaches in player development for two years in the MAAC

We were also interested in James' teammate, Jordan Wildy.
He's now committed to Coffeyville Community College in Kansas.

Don't know what happened since, but here's ten minutes of him as a junior in high school.

Don't know what happened since, but here's ten minutes of him as a junior in high school. The Wake offer was before his senior year. That could have been withdrawn. He did not commit to Iona until July 31 after graduation. Very, very late. I guess after Pitino was hired. I weigh his lack of production in the last two years more than high school highlights three or four years ago against questionable competition.

Martin County HS is #170 in enrollment in the state--has around 300 boys. James is the state's all-time leader in career shots blocked. Martin County is in eastern Kentucky, bordering West Virginia. There are not many large towns in that area so I am guessing most high schools that Martin County plays have small enrollments.

Martin County HS is about 1 1/2 hours from Saint Albans, West Virginia, where Nelson grew up.
James de-committed from Wake Forest after Danny Manning was fired.

In James' defense, he was behind a couple of really good bigs for Iona. Certainly worth a long look.
As for point guards, I kinda like that Honor Huff from VMI (SoCon all rookie team). Not sure if the staff is still looking at him.
Happy Easter all.

Malachi "Redbird" Poindexter off the board to Illinois State.. Looks we are firmly into the landing phase of the transfer portal activity the spring.

Malachi "Redbird" Poindexter off the board to Illinois State.. Looks we are firmly into the landing phase of the transfer portal activity the spring. The end game will be where mid major schools can possibly clean up. It becomes a more inefficient market as fewer and fewer landing spots are available and nerves are on edge. The selling points of an individual college will become less important as the number of available scholarships dwindle, allowing a patient school to trade up in talent compared to ordinary recruitment. HC still has open scholarships. Maybe we will move up in talent. We still have the usual obstacles such as admissions. If all the intelligent players who could get through admissions are off the board, we are in trouble.😟

Not sure if the staff is still looking at him. Happy Easter all. Nelly Joseph was a solid MAAC big. I do not know who else you refer to. He played 28 MPG. If James could not get more minutes than he did, I wonder how much he could help us. my guess is that Pitino either pushed him out or merely told him he had no future there.

Was thinking of the Van Eyck kid (I think).
Doesn't seem to be many options out there. I think we all agree that a couple of plug in and play types are sorely needed....especially at the point.
