Aside from Dr. Fauci, I wonder whether other noteworthy persons might be invited to the dedication ceremony. I can think of several.

for starters: James J. Collins, Michael F. Collins.

I share your hope, but I'm not holding my breath. This add-on naming of a group of buildings that already have names is of course well deserved, but somewhat anti-climatic for me. I can think of no one else connected with Holy Cross I admire more than Dr. Fauci and hoped our standing Army in the Development Dept. would generate something huge to celebrate the connection. Perhaps they have and also perhaps it's harder to do gracefully than I thought and I realize Dr. Fauci has also become a lightning rod for criticism, that I don't think is deserved.

Why turn this political ? Maybe if you have nothing to say positive about Dr. Fauci, you could sit this out.or start another thread.

Alumnus....pet peeve of mine I follow your point, but in today's world pronouns and descriptive nouns no longer seem to follow any standard rules regarding singular vs plural. To avoid possible confusion between "alumnus" determined by birth gender or by the way one identifies personal gender - "alumni" could be seen as a workaround.

Are you saying the college shouldn't honor an alumnus such as Justice Thomas BY NAMING A BUILDING AFTER HIM? That is a decision made by the college. It might some day, but I suspect it won't happen anytime soon, given the present environment. You may think otherwise, but you are not an alumnus or a benefactor. And both carry a lot of weight when it comes to naming buildings. Fauci has received 50 or so honorary degrees, far and away the most of any alumnus of the college. As Fauci received an honorary degree from Holy Cross in 1987, the college began in 2020 exploring ways to honor him for his lifetime or service.

Well, we do have the past practice off allowing a building name to be paired with that of a seller of slaves...

Well, we do have the past practice off allowing a building name to be paired with that of a seller of slaves... And we know what happened to Mulledy, first a binary name, and then a vanishing. Georgetown named its newest residence hall after a former Superior General.

When will Clarence Thomas get his building? Even if the HC community universally disbelieved Anita Hill (which they don't) and even if the HC community universally applauded Justice Thomas's decisions (which they don't), I think Ginni Thomas's attempts to promote a coup would have a chilling affect on the naming of a building after CT.

Funny thing is when the pandemic started and Dr. Fauci was on all the news channels and introduced as the leading force behind controlling the AIDS epidemic among other accomplishments I really liked him and trusted him without knowing he was an HC alumnus. He would be one of my all time favorites even if he had attended BC.

Let's stay focused on honoring Fauci as opposed to disparaging another distinguished alumnus that we should all be very proud of. From Ginni Thomas, to the funding of the Wuhan lab attributable to Fauci, to Chris Mathews' self-control issues in the workplace, there are various "skeletons" that have come to light for many of our most famous Crusaders.

Perhaps they're doing it on one of the reunion weekends? I assume those are on as scheduled; would be kind of a sick joke if they couldn't hold them because of another wave.

Who should be invited to the dedication ceremony? I provided the names of two distinguished physican alums. It might be interesting to go bigger. The President or Vice P? The current or previous head of the CDC who recently retired? The head of WHO? A rep from the gay leadership for his work on AIDS. Other AIDS researchers? African leaders involved with the ebola epidemic? The Headmaster of Regis? Dr. Chu Chu?And the list is unending for Dr. Fauci, the most honored epidemiologist researcher in the world. And, of course, Ralph Edwards for "This Is Your Life, Tony Fauci."
