It is baseball season once again. Sox and Yankees postoponed until tomorrow. No matter how nervous I am about the Sox this year (and actually the next couple of years if they don't resign Bogaerts and Devers) I still like knowing that most nights I can put a game on. Here is George Will's opening day quiz. I got 22 right. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/interactive/2022/george-will-baseball-quiz-2022/

13. And a couple of those were rather obvious because Will kept inserting the guy's name into the questions. Had no idea the guy was that good.

15/36. The ones I knew, I knew. Messed up the MLB leading question for a batter in a season (apparently, not quite the triple crown). Some of the names I have no idea on.

Here's a trivia question for you : in MLB history there are four players who have stolen a base in four different decades. Can you name them?
Just so there's no confusion, a "decade" means the 1920's, 1930's, 1940's , and so forth ,

Henderson is definitely one of them.
He wasn't fast but I'm going to go out on a limb and say Carlton Fisk.
Pete Rose is my third guess. Let's see if my brain can come up with a possible fourth...

1990's, 2000's, 2010's, 2020's -- I'm pretty confident no body stole a base in any of those four decades. I don't believe there was even one non-pitcher who appeared in those four decades.
Oops -- by chance the Yankees broadcast dropped me a huge clue. Thanks Michael Kay.
Rickey Henderson, Carlton Fisk, Pete Rose, Tim Raines

Just remembered Omar Vizquel (80's, 90's, 00's, 10's).
I'm wrong on one of the others then....

You got them all
Rickey Henderson Tim Raines Omar Vizquel Ted Williams-never stole more than 4 in one season and had 24 in his career, but he did steal a base in 4 decades

Minnie stole bases in the40s,50s,60s but not in his novelty appearances in the 70s or 80s Rose only played in three decades
Fisk played two games in 1969 but did not steal a base that decade
tim mc carver played 8 games in 1959 and 6 in 1980 but stole no bases in those games

I was hoping that Willie Mays would be one as MLB counts Negro League stats pre 1949 but research tells me he did not steal a base in 4 decades. At age 17, Willie played 13 games in 1948 with the Birmingham Barons but didn’t steal a base. I am sure he had steals in 1949 but those don’t count. He stole 23 bases in 1970, the year he turned 40!! www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/mayswi01.shtml

Thanks for doing this KY.
For some reason I thought Rose came up in 1959 and played into the early 80's. Turns out he played from 1963-1986.

Saw Tim Raines in a bar in Florida during Spring Training in 1992. His thighs were bigger than my waist by a decent margin. I was a lot skinnier then, but still a very impressive physical specimen.
