Saw Tim Raines in a bar in Florida during Spring Training in 1992. His thighs were bigger than my waist by a decent margin. I was a lot skinnier then, but still a very impressive physical specimen. Senior year spring break? Yes, a good time was had by all. Long story but I also got to have dinner with NFL WR Wes Chandler on the same trip. Part of the famous Air Coryell Chargers.

Was going to guess Ron Fairly, as I thought he was another 4 decade guy.

Was going to guess Ron Fairly, as I thought he was another 4 decade guy. 1958-78. Started and ended in LA with the Dodgers and Angels.

I took a bath on that Washington Post multiple choice trivia. 13/36. I also learned that Billy Wagner was the most underrated player of my childhood.

Padres are in a stink about the Giants bunting for a base hit in the 6th inning of an 11-2 game which is contrary to baseball etiquette.
The Giants defended the bunt because they are thinking about winning a series as much a winning a game and this is a way to burn through the other team's bull pen increasing a chance for a win the next day
my thoughts:
- You're not burning through my bull pen. In a blow out I'll leave a guy out there for four innings instead of four guys for one inning so I don't blow through my bull pen - Something I just learned from this and the Giants glossed over: There will be no 163rd games to break tie breakers anymore. If teams finish the season in a tie, run differential for the season will determine the winner. This is a new rule for 2022. My guess is Bobby Thompson is not pleased - I have no issue with the unwritten rules of baseball. I don't understand the concept of only liking some but not others. There is a standard procedure if you think an opponent has broken an unwritten rule. That procedure is not to publicly whine about it. You quietly go about your business and at the next convenient, non game critical opportunity, you drill the offender in the butt. That is part of the unwritten rules too, and seems much better than publicly whining

Using run differential as a tiebreaker is idiotic and will definitely lead to more angry teams, HBPs and fights. That’s the stupidest tiebreaker in sports and is inevitably going to lead to things that could be considered bad sportsmanship. At a minimum, they should cap it at a max 6 runs per game or something.
As for burning arms, the Padres used 6 pitchers in that game. Guess they don’t have a mop up guy or not one who is built up to take a long beating in the first week of the season. No one pitched more than 1 2/3 innings. I think the Padres were also a little miffed about a solo homer in the 8th on a 3-0 count.

TPTB continue to do everything they can to ruin this great sport. This one is as idiotic as the "man on second base" feauture thay tried.

First tiebreaker should be head to head...I have no problem with run differential being a tiebreaker but much further down the list.

Well, the man on second base rule has been in International baseball since at least the 2008 Olympic Games. It wasn't NEW and still in the game on the senior international level.

I thought that was supposed to be gone this year, but I've seen it. It seems brutal that you can pitch a full perfect inning - no hits, walks, or errors, and lose the game

Head to head as been in play since the wildcard, but only to determine seedings. Not in or out. If two teams tied for a division and the loser was going to be a wildcard. It was head to head. If the division stunk and the loser was not going to be a wildcard, it was on to 163

The runner on 2nd in extra innings is sticking around for the 2022 MLB season. I think the expectation is that it will be gone next year but I don’t know if that’s definite.
