Sounds like this could be a true test of local Worcester support. Indeed. Early enough to bring the youngsters. And high school football is Friday night. followed by the 3 Fitton games; what was our average home attendance last season?

Here's another decision that could be debated. Certainly two sides of the coin to this one.
Home game w/Georgetown on November 19...or should it have been on October 15 when both teams have an open date?
Better weather in October. Believe that unless there are holdover classes the beginning of Thanksgiving week; in both cases school is not in session.
Moving the game up, if either team is playing post season games; they get an extra week off to prepare, rest up.
And, of course, that game could have been the PP game instead of Bucknell. The way the AAA playoffs work, there's no possibility of the field not being ready, etc...it's a very short and sweet playoff if the Woo Sox qualify.
(Edit- my bad, Georgetown is an away game. Takes the game being at Polar out of the equation. Still think it would be a better decision to play it on 10/15, more so unless Georgetown is also on a mid-semester break).

We should beat those figures this year, being further past Covid. Barring early winter weather, another Covid wave, or the creek rising. (Remember Fitton is on a flood plain.). Or any other calamity.
Good thing the NCAA FCS Tournament Site Selection Committee didn't read the fine print about the flood plain.🙂

The International League playoffs consist of four teams and 5 game series. Season ends September 25, and the league does not play on Mondays. First playoff game would be September 27. If WooSox win that first series, the Governor's Cup would likely start on October 3. Definitely not a lot of time to get the field ready for football.

If WooSox win that first series, the Governor's Cup would likely start on October 3. Definitely not "plenty of time" to get the field ready for football. There must be a contingency clause in the contract sending the game back to Fitton in exchange for a penalty payment from the WooSox to HC, if Polar will be hosting the Governor's Cup. Or could the Playoffs switch to Fenway? Even if the Red Sox were in the post season they could have day night doubleheaders if Polar had already been converted to football.

I’m pretty sure the AAA baseball season is guaranteed to end no later than 10/3. Might be late September. I don’t think there’s any way we’re scheduling a game at Polar Park on a date when it could still be needed for baseball. To Gerry’s point above, I did see an article talking about 4 teams being in two 5-game series that would end 10/3. The winners of those series would both be declared champions.

Yeah, paying fifty bucks for a club seat at Polar and then being sent to a bench seat at Fitton would cause a prorated refund nightmare.

It was my understanding that the Alaska league was on a par with the Cape Cod league as among the best in the country.

Google responds to an inquiry about Alaska minor league baseball by listing several teams, that upon further examination are Collegiate Summer league teams, not organized or independent pro league teams. I got my own riddle wrong.
