The USFL is on FS1 now. It's Tampa Bay vs Houston but being played in the UAB stadium in Birmingham, Alabama. Perhaps a thousand people in the stands. The football is fine, but the location is puzzling. I haven't been following news about the league, but it didn't attract many fans for tonight's game.

I’ve seen lots of tv ads for it but have not explored what the league is all about. Is it sponsored by the NFL?

Not owned by the NFL. Eight teams. All regular season games played in Birmingham at Protective Stadium and Legion Field and playoffs played in Canton, OH. Some funky rules designed to make games interesting.

Wait, so the teams represent different cities but the whole regular season is played in Birmingham?
Is it time to just close the curtains for good on the idea of minor league football being a popular consumer commodity in the United States ever?

I closed my curtains after "He Hate Me" of the XFL retired. I thought that U.S. franchises of the CFL might work but they scurried back over the border. Perhaps they didn't give it a thorough try.

The PLL has a traveling circus of teams at a different stadium every weekend.

The PLL has a traveling circus of teams at a different stadium every weekend. That model is actually a great idea IMO for pro lacrosse. A lot different than an entire league solely operating out of Birmingham, AL. Of course Birmingham has somehow been the only city to draw respectably every time a new ferkakta semi pro football league starts up. The Minnesota Vikings almost moved down there not once but twice.
