I am putting this thread in football ONLY because it is at the top of the list of sports at HC, and not to cast aspersions on football or any other HC sport.
-----------------------------------------
For the class of 2025, HC' has reported that one enrolling individual had a verbal score between 200 and 299. And that 18 enrolling individuals had a composite SAT score (V+M) below 800. (N= 5.8 percent of the 325 enrolled applicants who submitted SAT scores.) The primary question is: at a test optional school, why on God's green earth would applicants even submit scores this low, expecting to be accepted?
Possible answers.
1.) HC erred in compiling the Common Data Set (CDS) for the class of 2025.
2.) These are foreign students, who submitted standardized test scores in addition to scores from the TOEFL test given to foreign students. (TOEFL is Testing of English as a Foreign Language or something like that.)
3.) Athletes, who submitted scores to the NCAA clearinghouse. Note that a composite score of 800 or higher was required by the NCAA to be recruited by a Division I school.
The CDS explicitly instructs those compiling the report that TOEFL scores should not be combined with SAT scores. Presumably this means don't include SAT score results for students taking the TOEFL test.
For athletes, the NCAA suspended use of standardized test scores because of COVID. However, if an athlete had submitted scores to the clearinghouse in 2019, or early 2020, these scores were presumably recorded, but did not subsequently affect eligibility, even though these were below the 800 composite score minimum.
If these are athletes, and I am not saying they are, this would indicate that the PL has suspended certain aspects of the Academic Index, because if a composite score of 795 or below makes you ineligible for the NCAA, there is no way a recruit can get an AI score above the Patriot League floor of 168 with standardized test scores that low.
For the record, with factoring in these low scores, the 25th and 75th percentiles for composite scores for the class of 2025 were 1240 and 1420.
So I am completely befuddled.
