First year D1 Stonehill has UConn, Providence and BC on their OOC schedule. Nice schedule. Why can't we do that?

First year D1 Stonehill has UConn, Providence and BC on their OOC schedule. Nice schedule. Why can't we do that? We have done that multiple times recently. Yes, all those schools stopped playing us during Willard era when we got good. But all have come back to play us again several times during our precipitous decade-long decline. I personally love having our old-school traditional New England hoops rivals on the schedule as often as possible => you can throw URI and UMASS in that group as well. But to be honest would rather play them when we at least have a "punchers chance" of competing for a win. This is one of those years where IMO the make up of the schedule really doesn't matter. I actually thought it was a decent slate put together given the state of the program.

Just curious: does anyone know when the basketball team starts practicing?

Just curious: does anyone know when the basketball team starts practicing? I think it's Monday. This is normally where we rely on Bison, but I believe teams are allowed to start practicing 42 days before the first game. The Crusaders open up on Nov 7, so backing up 42 days brings us to Sept 26

There was some confusion about when the Fordham game is to be played - well, now Fordham's site has changed again to Monday Nov 21 which is the date on our published schedule so we're playing Stonehill, Fordham and finally UIC in that order This really stinks for many of us in the NY Metro area that would find the Saturday much more convenient.

UMass trying to get some money back after making Martin the highest paid Mass. State Employee of all time. Meanwhile, I doubt UMass would play HC.

As many "as possible," a bit of an exaggeration. You have no idea just how many stiffs are out there.

The theory is playing at that time will get the students to show up.... More than a theory. It’s an established universal law that more students will show up for a midnight Friday game than any other time slot. Prerequisite: game must be televised.

URI is the only team in New England that plays most of the higher profile programs. URI is playing BC, PC, and UMass this season has done so most recent years. PC plays URI and UConn. BC plays just URI. UMass plays just URI in A-10 play. UConn plays just PC in BE play and that is only because it has to. It typically played none of the higher profile New England teams when it was a part of the AAC.

If ESPN would air a game at 2:00 AM, Calipari would have played it. He thought getting on TV would expand the program - and he did anything to get on TV

And getting himself on TV was, still is, and always has been, his first priority Even when he loses to St. Peter’s in the First Round.

The days of the ECAC Playoffs for an NCAA bid, 1975-80, have to be right up there in terms of region-wide interest in New England basketball. Those were heady days for URI, PC, Fairfield, UConn, UMass, BC and HC. There was talk of sending some of the New England teams off to other ECAC regions because NE was so loaded with good teams and the other regions couldn't match the depth of NE. It would have been nice if they became a conference but it wasn't in the cards. BTW, HC was the only one of the 7 I mentioned to make the field every year.

I went to some of the games of the ECAC New England Championship Tournament in Providence in the late 1970's. I believe that the four best teams via a poll were selected to compete in a three game tournament with the champion getting the automatic NCAA bid back in the day when the NCAA Tourney only had 32 teams.
