One of the Reds hit a long fly to left center last night that struck the top of the wall where it meets the little shelf in front of the first row of Monster Seats. Ball caromed way up in the air and came down in the field of play. Very odd sight and one of the added quirks in Fenway.

Home run, presumably?

No, it hit the corner of the top of the wall. It needs to go over the wall. The interesting part is that same player hit the top of the right field bullpen a few innings before also.

Not especially familiar with the specifics of "the wall" but it was described above as the shelf in front of the seats which are presumably behind the wall. That'd be a homer in my way of thinking but also sure the uniqueness of Fenway as their own ground rules. If the "shelf" is a part of and the top of the wall, I agree. I already spent more time on Red Sox discussion than I think it deserves! (i.e. nada)

I saw it as well. I think that the ground rule is that if the ball landed on the "shelf" it would be a home run--and momentum would cause the ball to keep going into the seats anyway. It appeared to me that the ball struck, as trimster notes, right at the intersection which might explain the really odd bounce. Here are both of Votto's doubles www.thescore.com/mlb/news/2367310Another frustrating loss by the Sox.

First one definitely a double. Second one, I slowed down and stopped it and looked like it did not hit on top of the "shelf" but rather literally on the corner at the right angle. Good call. NOT a home run, IMHO.

There must be a name for the intersection other than a ninety degree angle but damned if I know it.

There must be a name for the intersection other than a ninety degree angle but damned if I know it. corner Replay pretty clearly shows it hit the corner which is not a home run. Probably a home run in most other parks. The wall giveth and the wall taketh away

Many long singles off the wall that would have been homers elsewhere when Yaz was patrolling left.

Doubles park, not a homer park.
