HC can score invites to ice breakers against impressive opponents, even hosting the men last season. We can get a coach named to lead a national team. We can fund scholarships to the maximum level. It's actually winning games that has been the hard part.
Let's turn it around this year. Go Cross!

If the NEWHA had been available when HC had to move up to D-1, we may well have continued our fabulous winning tradition in women's hockey.

Holy Cross will win 95 percent of those games. Assumption does not have their own rink. That will be hard for them to recruit and schedule games.

Stonehill had no problem scheduling games off-campus for this fall including home games against Hockey East, ECAC, and CHA squads. www.stonehillskyhawks.com/sports/wice/2022-23/schedule

Also that conference by far is the worst womens hockey conference.

That could have been our conference if the timing was right. We might have been able to transition to D-1 while continuing to win and then eventually earn a slot in Hockey East or the ECAC based on D-1 success.
What's the explanation for why Coach Van Buskirk could build a consistent winning non-scholarship D-3 program without the PL AI but still within the parameters of HC's admission requirements, but the two scholarship D-1 teams haven't succeeded recently in either a low D-1 league (AHA) or a strong league (women's HE)?

Women’s hockey is not at full scholarships, they are still ramping up. Only explanation for our coach to still have a job after a 1 win season in Hockey East in year 4. 2. Men’s is more complicated but spending close to $100mm on athletic facilities with close to $0 going to hockey facilities sends a huge signal to recruits about how much HC values hockey (and I know that lacks some context but recruits don’t have time for context). Add on a coach that couldn’t meet the moment and 2 AD’s that didn’t understand college hockey, a recipe for disaster. Men’s program should be better this year and has a chance to make the top 8. Challenge is keeping all of their recruits heading to BCHL this fall and continuing to get some USHL recruits.

The last three seasons our league victories have gone from five to four to one. I think coaches like LaChapelle and Nelson should be and probably are actually improving as head coaches at this stage in their first command, but it's hard to show it statistically.

Difference is LaChapelle is in a much more difficult position than Nelson. She has a subpar facility at a school that just started D-1 hockey while playing in a good conference (not great at all). Nelson on the other hand??? His excuse?

Nelson’s possible excuse is he was never qualified for the job as a turn around artist for a program like HC to begin with. He had never turned anything around. But with the gift of Kit's patience and the leveling effect of the portal, he ironically has a second chance to turn around his own program after he couldn't turn around Carmody's.
A one season chance.
