Mystery surrounds why Stephanie Gaitley (under contract to 2025) suddenly left Fordham yesterday. Highly successful in the A-10 for 11 years at Fordham and obviously very late in the game to find a replacement. There's a backstory to this one for sure

Really strange situation, nobody is talking at FU.

Could be contract disputes. June 30 is probably end of fiscal year.

I believe she signed an extension through 2025 couple of years ago, but who knows.

I don't suppose the last year of College contracts can be "school option" but another thought is perhaps she would vest in a full year of vacation pay or other possible benefits or the required notice period to dismiss her would be extended if she was on the books on July 1, the start of a new fiscal year.
I don't blame the school in cases like this. If they meet their contractual responsibility to her they aren't obligated to drag a non-working situation out to appease the recruiting world.
They did wish her well.🙂
FU offers an A-10 program in NYC and a Jesuit Education. If players don't like it, here's the portal.

What the two athletes shared is most troubling. I hope they recover from their negative college basketball experiences. It does show how important it is to have a coach who is a positive influence on these young women, on their play and on their lives. I believe Holy Cross has a good example of what a women's college coach should be. Thank goodness for that.

Wow If half of this is true, what an indictment of both Gailey and Fordham.

What an odd resolution to convert a full athletic scholarship to a work study job. Perhaps these arrangements aren't that unusual but are rarely discussed. The player had a mother conferencing in from Oakland who was better than a lawyer.

There are many cases where I would prefer dealing with an attorney rather than with an angry Mom!

You'd have to conclude that after all the other stuff that occurred with her tenure at St. Joe's that Fordham would have been more diligent in monitoring how the program was being run. Sheeeeet, it took them 11 years to figure this out? Had to be a lot more young ladies coming forward than these two.
Right or wrong (probably wrong if the lawsuit goes his way), HC jumped all over Gibbons the second time there was any hint of a problem.

This is such a mess. Odd that this comes to light I think some 11 years later. As one might suspect, more recent players seem to be very supportive of the coach. In any case, a blueprint in how not to run a player off from a program.

Apparently there is no statute of limitations on mistreatment.

Turns out there are two sides to every story. Our own Avery LaBarbera appears to be on the side of the coach and and at least one former player who appreciated how she coached them.

In any case, a blueprint in how not to run a player off from a program. Given the time lag, you'd have to think that some other incident(s) have occurred fairly recently. As you say, it's definitely a blueprint how not to run a player off a program - although I'm not sure there is an acceptable way. Some coaches are very cutthroat when it comes to quickly changing a roster they inherited. One ugly example that got some press involved a Bucknell guard, Amanda Brown, who was from a North Dallas suburb and always wanted to play in the Big 12. She ended up signing with Oklahoma State and turned down some other good offers. But in March of 2005, OK State fired their coach. In April, the new coach phones Amanda Brown and says he doesn't want her there. (He was trying to free up space to bring in a couple of juco's.) He tells her that since she has a signed contract, he can't keep her from coming. But if she does, she won't be allowed to practice or play. Won't be on the team roster. Won't be allowed in the practice facility at any time. Won't live in the dorm with the other players. And at the end of the year, her scholarship will not be renewed. She obviously was distraught and found there were limited options at the point in the year. (This was way before the portal, and most teams in April had filled their rosters.) But her AAU coach knew an assistant at Bucknell, and it turned out they had a scholarship available. Brown ended up coming to Bucknell, where she made All-PL first team twice. (Missed it her junior year when she missed a lot of time with an injury.) She ended up getting an MBA while working as a grad assistant, and she is now Associate Director of Academic Services at Georgia Tech. So at least the story had a happy ending.

Great story. I hope the portal and NIL for all their downside will at least help balance the age of the imperial coach.
I was amazed that HC AD MB didn't step up in support of the players when there was such an unprecedented mass exodus from HC MBB after MB brought in BN. But I also wondered if this was part of their joint plan to turn around HC MBB in a hurry to put a feather in both their caps.

I shot the Fordham WBB squad a few times over the last few years and don't remember anything remotely being different in the way she coached. I just felt like she was there and that is about it. Some coaches you remember....

Yeah, but if you read the players' posts linked above, or think about any abusive situation, the abuser is always smart enough to conduct their abuse when there aren't prying eyes around. Like all of us, I have zero first-hand knowledge of this situation, but I'd say conduct in front of photographers is in no way illustrative as to the credence of the allegations here.

Her dad is Tiny Green of Nothing But Skills and Candace is a 2012 Colgate grad, former captain and former assistant coach for the Red Raiders.
Can you imagine the write up Tiny must have given his own daughter when she was a high school recruit?
