Actually, Geddie played in that 33 inning game as well. Got yanked early (9 innings or so) in favor of the legendary Roger LaFrancois*. The poor starting catcher for Rochester caught the first 31! * Has to be a record of some kind for a non-pitcher. He was on the 1982 Red Sox the entire year, his only year in the majors; all 162 games; and batted 10 times. Got 4 hits, so a career 400 hitter!
Future Hall of Famers Wade Boggs and Cal Ripkin played in the 33 inning longest game at McCoy. Other notable players included Marty Barrett, Rich Gedman, Bruce Hurst, and Bob Ojeda, The records and memories that happened in Pawtucket belong to RI as it is the one and only home to them. Worcester must create their own.
There were 19 fans left in the McCoy stands when the longest game was suspended 8 hours in at 4:07am after the 32nd inning was completed in April-1981. Team owner Ben Mondor later gave them lifetime free passes to all future home games. The game was resumed in late June and I was there in attendance. The novelty of it being the longest game in history along with it being during an MLB strike work stoppage brought huge interest. Media (some 140 press credentials) from around the nation and world descended on Pawtucket. The press box was far too small and an entire section had to be converted just for media members. The resumption lasted just one inning as Dave Koza got a hit to drive in the winning run in the bottom of the 33rd. After a break, the two teams then played a regularly scheduled game.
The longest game in pro baseball history and they commemorate it on a cinderblock wall underneath the bleachers?

Similar to the HC Wall of plaques in the Hart Center. I've enjoyed browsing both. I have been to the New England Sports Museum in TD Boston Garden. I haven't been to the Patriots hall of fame but it's on the bucket list.

Worcester didn't sell out for Chris Sale? Some 600 short of capacity (9,508) with 8,891 in attendance.

Typical Lucchino. This should tell you all how WooSox management really feel about the PawSox legacy. They sold off most of the team's memorabilia before moving. Flash forward to 2022 and the team is promoting a PawSox Heritage Day to recognize the illustrious history of the franchise, including 47 years as the Pawtucket Red Sox. These combined contradictory actions less than two years apart are just another great example of the money grubbing hypocrisy of team ownership. The WooSox apparently aren't as desperate to re-engage former Louisville fans as they are with those that supported the Pawsox for nearly 50 years. Make no mistake, the Pawsox Heritage Day is a shameless attempt to get support from Rhode Islanders. The event is very much an admission that these people have not been coming to Polar Park in the hoped for numbers. I suspect it will fail miserably to achieve its goal to change that.

They are at the top of league in attendance. Half the games have sold out. There is no desperation to get support from Rhode Islanders. Your bellyaching and complaining has become tiresome. Get a life and move on.

Update The Pawsox Heritage Game at Polar Park took place last Saturday (7/9/2022). The game only drew 7,680 to the 9,508 capacity venue, some 1,800 short of a full house (80% of capacity). Not very impressive for a Saturday weekend 4pm game during the prime attendance season (late June through August when school is out) for a much hyped game that took place under sunny weather conditions with no rain. Worcester management announced that approximately 1,100 from Rhode Island, a state whose border begins just 25 miles from Polar Park, attended the event. They made up some 14% of the total less than capacity gate for the game. This game, specifically marketed to former Pawsox fans, probably by far had the highest ever number of people from RI. This would seem to imply that the WooSox at best probably get just a few hundred from the Ocean State for most games. This would confirm that very few RI fans that once attended McCoy Stadium (once had a season high attendance of some 688,000) are coming to Worcester to see their former team. Not much surprise to me that lots of PawSox regulars aren't flocking to Worcester. I'm sure many fans feel jilted. Polar is way more expensive than McCoy. Even if there was a new stadium in Providence or Pawtucket, there was going to be a significant price increase, and that would have turned off a percentage of the regulars. Also, this isn't just a state line thing. Lots of MA residents were in the stands at McCoy
It's been a few years since I've been to a Spinners or Fisher Cat game, but I gotta believe the incredible value we got in Pawtucket is pretty uncommon in 2022

Folks, my 20+ years as a Rhode Island resident is they just don't travel well . . . . for anything. (having chummed the water, let's see if rf1 goes for a second bite ) Seriously, Ocean State Holy Cross alums are notoriously horrible for making what the rest of the country would think was an easy jaunt up 146 for a football or basketball game at Fitton or the Hart Center. One of my Classmates who was an excellent football player (potential NFLer, career hepatitis-ended) lives in my same town/same church. Think he goes to Crusader football games? Yeah, once every 5 years or so he'll go to one. My other football RI Classmate used to go semi-regularly 20 years ago. Hasn't been in at least 15 years and only "considers it" if I will drive. Then something usually comes up. The first guy we've seen at a local restaurant and he told us he hangs out once a month for lunch with his local high school buddies. Both are great guys but I couldn't drag them up to watch an excellent football team. Hard to get RI alums that live in metro (using the term loosely) Providence (think Providence/Johnston/Cranston/Warwick) to go all the way down for a HC basketball game at URI. At the Dunk, that's better, against PC. It's closer. I once "complained" at lunch in the office about the possibility of having to drive from Cranston to Seekonk to watch a popular movie (perhaps a 20-25 minute drive). I was being facetious but my table mates thought I was serious and agreed with me. You know, driving all the way to another state. Sooooo, if the WooSox got 1,000+ Ocean Staters, that'd be a pretty big deal IMHO.

The complaining and bitching over a team that is what....second in overall attendance for all minor league is embarrassing and nauseating.
If it's too far from RI....don't go. If it's too expensive....don't go.
Those of us that have gone to a WooSox game really enjoy it. It's 100 times better than McCoy. Please, if you're from RI and miss parking in the abandoned Hasbro parking lot just stay home and enjoy your Dells.

On Shrewsbury day you will get at least 1,000 people from Shrewsbury show up for the game, same with Auburn, Holden, Leicester and Northboro. Even Boylston, a town of 4,000 had 600 fans come. To get 1,200 fans to come from Rhode Island is impressive.

Boston Red Sox aren't selling out games in July either. Move them back to the Huntington Avenue Grounds!

This seems like a very simple exercise: how are the WooSox drawing compared to other minor league teams? Flash Foley’s customary moronic statement, chumming the water, is only a distraction. Looks like any objective observer would conclude that, at least at this point, the city has embraced the team

Looks like any objective observer would conclude that, at least at this point, the city has embraced the team What I look at is there is a new stadium in the second season which isn't getting packed every day/night. It is the flashy new thing to do, the real test is after the new stadium wears off (likely after Lucchino dies or sells the team) to see if the WooSox can continue to lead MiLB in attendance?

It is a concern with the Boston Red Sox not selling out. This is a sign that interest in baseball in New England is waning.
