Disney is raising the monthly price from $6.99 to $9.99 on August 23. Annual going from $69.99 to $89.99. Ouch, but HC sports are worth it.

Not surprising with ESPN stock spiraling.
Maybe they and Disney should stay out of politics.

And, maybe we should stay out of politics, too!

Not surprising with ESPN stock spiraling. Maybe they and Disney should stay out of politics. Corporations being political, imagine that. Have you read Citizens United?

Is a corporation getting involved in politics truly the problem? Or, is it the political decision by the corporation which rankles some. My point is no-one is fooling anybody with comments which have an underlying political point of view. Sub rosa political comments seem to be a continuing problem with some on this board. My suggestion? Ditch the political innuendo entirely.

How about we focus on that entity being more than complicit in doing something that most of us don't like: the ruination of college athletics? Whether they are ultra-woke or ultra-maga is kind of irrelevant.

It's like a Boston Globe column on the Red Sox where the writer discloses that John Henry owns both the Globe and the Red Sox, right before the columnist rips Henry a new one over his paying nine figures over six years for a clunker of a player.
But the manager of the Red Sox isn't going to rip Henry about the Red Sox and the columnist isn't going to rip Henry over personnel decisions in the Globe Editorial dept.
So despite the disclosure of common ownership the Red Sox and Globe are separate Fiefdoms. I think ABC and ESPN look for money saving synergies and cross marketing but have to be run separately to be effective and if there is a scandal at ESPN, ABC News will cover it just like the other news outlets except they will disclose the common ownership right before they cut ESPN a new one.

I'm not sure that 's a great analogy.
The Red Sox and the Globe are separate fiefdoms who happen to have the same summer, If I buy the Red Sox , I will not suddenly own the Globe or vice versa.
ABC is a subsidiary of the Disney corporation.
A comment was made about Disney being involved in politics and a reply was made that corporations are frequently involved in politics. I am naive enough to hope the 4th estate should be held to a higher standard. Especially when we're not talking about Citizens United types getting involved because it can help their business, but corporations operating outside the scope of their business model
Disclaimer: I will not be buying the Red Sox. For the good of the game, I would be better suited for Commissioner. I'm just holding out for the Judge Landis deal

George W. Bush would have traded the Presidency to be MLB Commissioner so you are in good company.
GE used to own NBC. Both survived without incident as I recall. Right now the UFC is having a rare matinee from UBS Arena on Long Island. The preliminaries were on ESPN+ and the main card is being simulcast on ABC-TV and ESPN+.
I guess my point is either entity could be bought or sold separately. The UFC could be bought from Endeavor by Disney or Disney could sell ESPN to Endeavor. They all are separate business entities.
Out of all the businesses mentioned, the Globe might be an outlier as it could be considered a vanity purchase by John Henry. He hasn't moved to expand his journalism division like he has with the Fenway Sports Group. If so, like Jeff Bezos buying and maintaining the Washington Post, thanks John.
