Yeah, think about it. Even a 10 year old kid who saw Gordie play is now 40. Heck, his son is closer to 30 than 20.

Great piece.
Also pretty sweet letter jacket and windbreaker sported by #17 back then.
Been waiting for the bookstore to sell something like those since 1992.

Was pleasantly surprised with some of the offerings in the bookstore on a recent visit, even compared to what was available say 5 years ago. Hopefully they continue adding to the catalog, including some retro looks such as the ones seen in the short film.

BC has them in their bookstore and they're sharp. Bookstore needs more V-neck old school collegiate stuff. Everything either has a hood or is made of under armour-like stuff. But I digress. Would have been awesome to have been a fan of HC football back in the 80s. All I knew about HC back then was from seeing their basketball team play at Seton Hall on occasion.

What a great piece. Maybe I'm biased (ok, I very much am) but I feel like there could've been so much more done with it. But for 11:00, it's pretty damn good.

1986 Heisman vote - www.sports-reference.com/cfb/awards/heisman-1986.html1987 Heisman vote - www.sports-reference.com/cfb/awards/heisman-1987.htmlIn 1987 I was fortunate to be invited to the annual Heisman luncheon at the Downtown AC ( day before presentation ) seated at one of two HC tables. AIR, about 125-150 in attendance with several past winners and maybe 12-15 major football schools and the nominees. The Army AD, a high rank officer, was a speaker and he singled out Gordie as an example of not only athletic prowess but as a true student-athlete. It was very, very classy. At the conclusion of his address, he purposely walked over to Gordie and shook his hand in congratulation and joked that Army was glad he was graduating. I attended the Army game depicted in that highlight footage. The stats are posted in the Boston link but what really stands out are the 21 tackles. The Michie Stadium PA guy was so impressed that at one point he said ...." short pass completed....tackle made by....you guessed it....number 17 Lockbaum " .
To this day the greatest individual game I've seen in football !

Believe there was a 2 or 3 year period in the Dan Allen era where they came back (with the longer length), wish they had stayed.

To this day the greatest individual game I've seen in football ! The irony about 1987 was that the team was too good for him. Didn't have to play defense very much; a nickel back and there were a ton of blowouts; a lot more than the year before. Same set of circumstances as 1986 (depth an issue on both sides of the ball), and he stays healthy, maybe he wins the Heisman. As it was he came pretty close.
