Holy Cross and HC Basketball lost a giant earlier today, as Togo went to his reward about an hour ago. As many of us know, Togo turned 90 on Monday, and there was NO WAY he wasn't going to make that.
There has never been, and likely never will be, a more loyal son of Holy Cross.
May he rest in peace.

A fixture in the Hart Center. R.I.P., Togo.
Sherry Levin will be crushed at this news. As will thousands of other Crusaders.

Hart won't be the same without him.
RIP Togo

Rest In Peace Togo.
I will never forget your speech at the dedication of the Togo Palazzi Room in the Luth Athletics Complex.
Togo’s kindness to my son was memorable.
A very sad day for me and my family in hearing of the passing of this man who bled Purple.

I'm glad he and his family experienced his recent Boston Garden tribute representing the Celtics of the 1950s.

I have heard countless hoops lecturers over the years, none were better than Togo. That, of course, is just one example of his many great qualities. I will not easily forget his one on one battles with Keith Hochstein and Ed Siudut(RIP) in the fieldhouse(RIP).

One of the best 1x1 players ever. Saw him at so many HC events. I will truly miss him. A sad day.

Talked to him a number of times after which all I wanted to do was lace up the sneakers and hit the court. He loved the story I told him of how my father rushed home from work and told my mother pack quickly we have a flight to New York for the NIT finals. She thought he was nuts. It was one of his greatest sports event thrills. RIP Togo.

Hope there's a basket, a ball and some opponents in Togo's heaven.
And, yes, when he was in the NBA he had a reputation in the league as someone you'd have trouble beating in a 1 on 1 match.

The world is a poorer place with his passing, but it is a better place because of the legacy he leaves behind. May his soul rest in peace and his love ones and friends find comfort with their memories of him.

Hope someone comes up with a commemorative patch or the like for the team to wear this season. The man bled purple.

HOW IS THERE NOTHING ON GOHOLYCROSS.COM?!?!?
I understand that it’s August, and that Togo passed away (early) on a Friday afternoon, but this man was one of the all-time great Crusaders. Someone should have been in the Sports Information office by dinner time yesterday, and had an appropriate recognition on the site no later than first thing this morning. This is just plain lazy, and shows a complete lack of respect for one of the College’s most loyal sons and for the legacy of Holy Cross basketball. Disgusting and inexcusable.

Kit Hughes has a humongous job on his hands in reshaping this Athletic Department and Communications so that it functions the way it should for a D1 program!!! Communications, distribution lists (for season ticket holders), taking care of long time fans/season ticket holders, showing that they are informed and care have been at the bottom of the list for too long!!! The basketball program is in shambles!!! Thank God for Bob Chesney and football, otherwise we are a dumpster fire!!! Don't get me started....

Regarding Togo... He was the personification of what HC athletics was and should be about!!! I have known him and of him for decades... at least 60 years!!! Back in the late 50's/early 60's, we had a brash young guy in our town who often mouthed off before thinking of what he was about to say... there was a day when we were all hanging around the local ice cream shop and Togo just happened to stop by (he was involved with the sports athletic shop in town)... this young guy got into a basketball discussion with Togo which led to a challenge... Togo accepted the challenge noting that his sneakers were in the trunk of his car... off to a nearby BB court and Togo cleaned his clock in a one on one... enough said!!! In early May this year I had to have a pre-op physical for carpal tunnel surgery... my PCP was not available so I had another doc in the office who I have known for a long time. It also happened to be Togo's doc. Following the physical I asked him how Togo was doing... much to my dismay, he said that he should have died years ago with all the health issues he has had... I will forever be grateful and thankful for having met and known Togo, the wonderful gentleman and role model that he was! I will forever remember the stories, tales and comments that he spun at the golf outings, gatherings and pre/post BB games comments and about his playing time at HC, and his utter admiration/respect for Buster Sherry, a true legend at HC!!! There is only one Togo, one of the greatest of all time, so thankful that I got to know him!!! You have truly earned your reward of life everlasting, God Bless and may you rest in Peace!!!

Well, I think Togo was a big supporter of the Crusader logo/mascot but perhaps you'd like to vent on that? P.S. You beat me to the Jake Dobbs T&G "eating" story. And you have to get up pretty early in the morning to do that!

I really enjoyed watching "A really big shoe" Ed. One forgets what a true "stiff" he was but had a great, great variety show. With his (lack) of personality, he'd never get a show today except as a back office producer.
