HC’s Christian Emmerich shot 79 yday in the first round of medal play at the US Amateur - really not a bad score as the course is over 7400 yards and extremely difficult- he’s the best golfer we’ve had in a long time

He dropped a ball in there and you basically lost sight of it.

They are using two different courses in Paramus for the qualifying rounds: Ridgewood CC and Arcola CC. I assume the rough is brutal at both of them. Ridgewood is the better known, having been designed by Tillinghast and later tweaked by Gil Hanse. It periodically has hosted a Fed EX Cup event near the end of the season and has also hosted some U.S. Senior Opens.

When the Amateur was at Brookline, Charles River was the secondary host. All the match play was at the Country Club which Fitzpatrick won. The Amateur is a great event to attend for any of the people in that market especially the matchplay. Just pick two random golfers and follow them.

I’ve had the pleasure (maybe that’s the wrong word) to play both courses numerous times - from much shorter yardage- but they are monsters ! Emmerich played great today at Arcola shooting 37-35 — 72 - that is fantastic and I’m sure he’s very pleased - he’s plus 10 for the two rounds and at the moment it looks like plus 3 will be the cutoff to qualify as one of 64 to play match play starting tmro

When was the last time an HC student or alum played in the US amateur?

Maybe you could have said ‘other than Emmerich’ because this was his 2nd usga am - he played a couple of years ago when it was held at Pinehurst

Hole in one 12,500 to one. Albatross a million to one.

So a "double eagle" is also an "albatross." Always new things to learn on Crossports.

Not referring to a hole-in-one here - do you see the '2' fingers ? they both made a double eagle 2 on a par 5 - that's an albatross
