Name an MLB player who played for the same club when it was located in three different cities.

Eddie was on two World Series championship teams…the ‘57 Milwaukee Braves and the ________________?

68 Tigers
As a child my favorite players were Mickey Mantle, Eddie Matthews, and Vada Pinson

Another question: Name a player (not the organist, John Kiley), that played for 3 Boston pro teams.

Gene Conley. Braves, Red Sox, Celtics. He's associated with the first black player on the Red Sox for what reason?

Gene Conley. Braves, Red Sox, Celtics. He's associated with the first black player on the Red Sox for what reason? Pumpsie's room mate? Gene Conley is also the answer (and probably better known for ) to another sports trivia question. Any thoughts/guesses?

By the way - I did not know Eddie Mathews played for the '68 Tigers. One can learn amazing things on Crossports

Gene Conley. Braves, Red Sox, Celtics. He's associated with the first black player on the Red Sox for what reason? He and Pumpsie jumped the team bus and were headed for Israel, but changed their minds.

He and Pumpsie jumped the team bus and were headed for Israel, but changed their minds. That's what I was referring to. It was the first case of a sports role model displaying aberrant behavior I can remember and it disconcerted me as a kid. Conley was a fascinating figure to a kid because he played for two local teams.

Another question: Name a player (not the organist, John Kiley), that played for 3 Boston pro teams. John Kiley raises another question. I can't remember one but did the Worcester Auditorium ever use an organist for HC games like Boston Garden and Fenway Park did at the time?

I don't think so. Regarding aberrant behavior; can't get much more aberrant than Jimmy Piersall (my favorite player).

My favorite as well. Remember the movie, Fear Strikes Out? Starring Anthony Perkins who was terrific for the behavioral scenes but totally miscast as a baseball player. I was in a movie theatre in Wellfleet watching "Bull Durham" many years ago and sitting across the aisle from me was Perkins.

I don't think so. Regarding aberrant behavior; can't get much more aberrant than Jimmy Piersall (my favorite player). I think game announcers and sportswriters shielded that to a certain extent or a small kid could understand bolting from a bus but Piersall's mental illness went over my head in real time.

To quote Strother Martin in Butch Cassidy, I just thought he was “colorful.” It seemed the announcers liked him and his antics to make the game more “fun.”

Favorite Jimmy Piersall stories:
(1) when he hit his 100th career home run he ran backwards around the bases
(2) Piersall's team is playing the Yankees and Yankee pitchers have already brushed back or hit a couple of Piersall's teammates. Piersall gets up to bat and says to Yogi: "Yogi if you bean me I'm going to hit you with this bat and you know I'm crazy enough to do it." Yogi responds "Jim, we haven't thrown at a .220 hitter all year"

That brings up an Eddie Mathews story. He hit 25 homers his rookie season for the Boston Braves but the notorious Boston sportswriters relentlessly pointed out all his flaws during the season.
At Spring training the next year the more polite Milwaukee writers asked him if he was worried about the sophomore slump. He replied "Why should I be, I didn't do much last year." He hit 47 dingers his second season.

Braves Field was a notoriously difficult hitters' park. 25 homers was fantastic playing half your games there.

That must be how the Braves got away with a two man and a day of rain pitching rotation.🙂

Of course, prayer was involved in that rotation..."Spahn and Sain and pray for rain."

Gene Conley is also the answer (and probably better known for ) to another sports trivia question. Any thoughts/guesses? Since no guesses, Gene Conley is the only man to win a big 4 championship in two different sports. He won 3 championships with the Celtics and was also on the 57 World Series championship Braves
