You know it was against the second and/or third team right?

I was here at game tonight. Some quick thoughts:
OL very good. RBs ran hard and are good WR loaded. Shipman took a good leap forward. Dom Thomas no real run - kind of shocked TEs - Lane took a nice leap forward Thought Smith called a real good game.
D Played 3-2-6 all game long I don’t love that. I know they gave up 10. It looked worse in person Williams and Springer got run at NG. No other DL. Dyer fully dressed. Only played the 3 DEs. Bolden and Monte didn’t get a ton of run DBs - No Prince - not sure what the deal is. Jarmolovich played a lot. Duchemin got some run at corner but basically - Jarmo, Reynolds, Smith, Spence, Haskins, Burms, Argys
Didn’t notice any injuries other than Argys. Looked to get banged up
Penalties killed us. Only one real bad throw by Sluka on the pick.
Biggest concern - run D and lack of pass rush with 3.
Got the W. Good way to start. A lot of work to do. Merrimack isn’t really very good.

Now let's see if HC can do something they could not do last season...go to 2-0.

Leave those dumb penalties at Merrimack for the rest of the season

You know it was against the second and/or third team right? Yes but it hurts our overall stats! 10 against vs 17.

I don’t recall the details, nor do I know where they might be in their depth chart, but doesn’t Merrimack have a healthy number of FBS transfers on the roster?

Overall, HC was the superior team. Typical opening game performance with some good moments and some miscues. Racked up yards on O. D played well. Some of the play calling was interesting.Sacks & pressures by HC D? Overall team speed? Sluka passing as he rolls out? Playing with poise? The game was a good learning experience. There is plenty to clean up.

Surprised by the lack of discipline. Kicking game needs some work. Run D will be the biggest opportunity week to week. Also we had multiple times we could have put this game away and didn’t. d will need some rest can’t be playing then to late in games like this. Win is a win but next week will be a different game with a lot more challenges. Need to get to work quickly.

The video broadcast left a lot to be desired. Camera positions too low. Too few cameras,

First game, making up for last year, good win No problem with the result but anxious to see more development of the DL I thought Merrimack gave us problems up front and did a nice job on Anderson and Dobbs A year to prepare will make that happen On to Buffalo

Great catch. On a side note, while the announcers are okay, this tv production is complete trash. Stadium like frozen screen after frozen screen, starting late in the first half....was this necfrontrow's fault or crappy wifi (I'm down the Cape)?

Got the W. Good way to start. A lot of work to do. Merrimack isn’t really very good. Merrimack's defense was mediocre at best. I'd like to see their offense with the qb they had last year. Astounding that #11 was a FBS scholarship quarterback. He's awful.

Headed for the parking lot at 31-10, and just got home. We have some work to do, but not as much as that officiating crew. It was almost as if they were thinking, “Oooh, that was a big play for HC, better throw a flag!”
Primary observation on the evening (haven’t read all posts, so I don’t know if others have commented): Could the Merrimack quarterback be a bigger wimp?? That kid is as afraid of taking a hit as Sluka is ready and willing to take on anyone that might be in his path. Have we ever seen Sluka go into a slide? And the knee thing in the third quarter, I was thinking a European soccer match might break out - especially given his writhing and then almost immediate return to the pitch, er, I mean field.

In a few years it will be much better

HC has not had a roster this loaded in a long time. A truly great job bringing in talent and putting them into the hands of a great S&C coach.
But the current lack of discipline and game management/over-coaching (e.g. putting in an ice cold Pekansky for Sluka on 3rd and goal from the 9) are going to hold HC back from becoming a legit top 10-15 program.
I agree with dharry on Smith calling a great game in his first time as an OC. I wish they would unplug HCBC’s headset when we have the ball and just let it rip.

Not a huge fan of the 3-2-6 even if Dobbs and Anderson are our 2. Felt like our DL underwhelmed. Wonder how they would look vs Buffalo and fbs linemen (even if they are mac)

I had constant buffering issues through the entire second half, and I was watching on a hard wired connection on a desktop. Also watching on a tablet and had issues with the broadcast.

Sluka slid last year. And you really don't want your QB taking big hits, because Pesansky, at this point, is not Siderman. Going by the TV broadcast, the Merrimack QB clearly seemed to have had leg cramps.

Officiating was brutal....D-Line was underwhelming....play-calling on O was questionable....but it's nice to bitch about a win.

Sluka took himself out of the game after a scrum in the middle of the line. He headed straight for the sideline, and Pesansky was rushed in.
