The Princeton policy serves as a paradigm. "Pie in the sky" no doubt but I fervently hope HC will some day adopt a policy similar to Princeton's.. Sent a cheque to HC for one million from one of my smaller accounts. HA!!!!

They can afford to give free education to all students
Nothing more than a BS press release

I fervently hope in the future HC will be in a position to offer tuition free admission to all and room/board with reduced rates or no charge for those who qualify w/o any difference in the rooms assigned. Don't know the math. HC should be easily accessible to all who have the grades. Loans, etc are a terrible/impossible impediment for some due to the high costs. I find it disheartening for some who took loans in the past to oppose any forms of further help to current & future generations. Finances should never bar any student from receiving an elite HC education.

Would be nice. But unfortunately HC seems to be slightly headed in the other direction, having recently waved the white flag on "need-blind" admissions.

Would be nice. But unfortunately HC seems to be slightly headed in the other direction, having recently waved the white flag on "need-blind" admissions. Growing the endowment is critical to enabling HC to remain competitive with financial aid. One can take whatever position they want as to whether student loans should be forgiven, but the loans themselves are devastating to many. I know someone who took out some student loans to help get his three children through college about 20-25 years ago. He also paid some of the cost himself. The principal balance was $59K. He's been paying $330/mo for about 20 years and he still owes $32K. He hopes to have it paid off before he dies.

Yep, HC is going in the wrong direction. Yep, loans are devastating. Gotta' grow the endowment substantially. And, HC is not alone. Assume trying to survive as an elite college is the current big challenge for HC. Nevertheless, have to keep some hope alive even though it appears baseless. "There's got to be a morning, after."

Would be nice. But unfortunately HC seems to be slightly headed in the other direction, having recently waved the white flag on "need-blind" admissions. I am hopeful that the push for financial aid related endowment gifts will reverse this. We should also acknowledge that the College has said that it is only need aware as to a small percentage of the class. Finally, as I understand it, they still meet full need (as they calculate it) for all of the students they accept.
