One thing I noticed at the game was that we set up a tent adjacent to the visitor locker room for the Yale team that appeared to roughly double the size of the visitor locker room. Is that something new or have we done that before?

I think you are saying ESPN and Spectrum/Charter do not have an obligation to Holy Cross because they are paying HC but rather their obligation is to their customers who are paying them, which I agree with. I'm not out to get ESPN in any way. I'm just clear they didn't meet their obligation to their customers while Spectrum/Charter met their obligation to their customers. ESPN has a multi-year agreement with the Patriot League. The agreement covers digital streaming on ESPN+ of 800 PL athletic contests, annually. patriotleague.org/news/2020/9/15/general-patriot-league-reaches-multi-year-rights-agreement-with-espn-for-live-game-coverage-starting-this-fall.aspxBy locally produced television broadcast, they mean Spectrum. As I understand the agreement, for football and men's basketball, if there is no locally produced television broadcast, or CBS Sports broadcast, then ESPN is required to produce and digitally stream the game; e.g., ESPN announcers. For the Olympic sports, I believe the schools are responsible for production. (IIRC, Loyola men's lacrosse may be a locally produced television broadcast.) The ESPN-PL digital streaming agreement does not cover M/W ice hockey. For a extensive description of NESN and ESPN agreements with Hockey East, see: nuhuskies.com/news/2022/4/6/mens-ice-hockey-hockey-east-announces-new-broadcast-deals-with-espn-and-nesn.aspxAs I read the agreement, ESPN will televise at least three games, NESN will televise about 50 games, and ESPN+ will digitally stream all games. espnpressroom.com/us/press-releases/2021/10/ecac-hockey-announces-eight-year-extension-of-streaming-rights-agreement-w ESPN would pay the local television broadcaster for the rights to digitally stream the game. -------------------------- Edited to add an illustrative example. HC sells local television broadcast rights to Spectrum for five football games at $25,000 per game. ESPN+ is required to digitally stream these five football games. ESPN+ pays Spectrum $18,000 per game for the digital streaming rights. Spectrum hopes to make a profit after purchasing the rights and paying Spectrum's production costs through 1.) ESPN+ streaming rights payment; 2.) sale of local advertising spots during the broadcast. (Spectrum also has the monthly subscriber revenue stream.) I do not know whether the Spectrum broadcast has national TV ads; if so, these could be an additional source of revenue to Spectrum. Very informative. Thanks. The $25,000 and $18,000 per Holy Cross game are just illustrative figures, right? If HC is able to sell the local broadcast rights for three games for $25,000 each I am very impressed. Especially since I understood from other posts on Crossports that HC had to buy it's radio broadcast time on 1440AM the local relay simulcast station of WEEI sports radio in Boston and hope to make it up in ad sales. I wonder how much value CBS Sports provides to the PL? It is a puny excuse for a vibrant national sports channel/network that a decent percent of PL fans have to scramble to gain paid access to the few times their team is on it and it knocks ESPN+ off of coverage. I don't think I've watched it since the last times HC was on it, which might have been the Spring 2001 PL FB league championship game and/or the SDSU game and last season’s MBB game at BU?

The numbers are illustrative. What Spectrum would be willing to pay is hugely dependent on how much Spectrum can get from ESPN for the streaming rights. There is almost no market for radio broadcasts these days.. I think the remaining market is people stuck in their cars. ---------------------------------------------- I watched the replay of the start of the Eastern New Mexico @ Tarleton. ESPN+ produced, no local television broadcast. First set of ads at 11:25 mark of first quarter. Five national brands, including Coors. Second set of ads at 7:40 mark. Again, five ads. One national (Coors) four local: a company selling ranch property, a sports medicine practice; a residential real estate company, and a farmers insurance company promoting Tarleton-related prizes. The Tarleton QB, transfer from Univ Kentucky, can throw some bombs. No sign of Siderman. He has yet to appear in three games.

Just read Yale's preview of the game at Cornell - emphasizing the positives from last week but nevertheless interesting to remember they were a tough opponent
"With five minutes left in the first quarter, Yale had an 84-8 edge in total yards, but the Crusaders used two big plays – a pair of 36-yard touchdown passes – to build a 21-7 halftime lead. Holy Cross then outscored the Bulldogs 14-0 in the third quarter. Both Yale's offensive and defensive lines made a strong opening impression. The Bulldogs had five sacks in the game, while the offensive line did not allow a sack."

A post like Yale's from an opponent is in its own way quite a compliment.

HC shot itself in the foot with 3 penalties to give Yale 3 first downs and keep drives alive while HC went 3-and-out on its one possession. Very frustrating first 10 minutes but the game was pretty lopsided from there.

From Yale's perspective, you gotta acentuate the positive. Do we ever do that?

I seem to remember that as an Irish-Catholic trait. Be careful when some thing good happens because that means something bad will happen to restore balance. Or, if you fear the worst then whatever happens it will be better than what you feared.

Hope for the best but expect the worst.
Disney (not Irish that I’m aware of): underpromise and over deliver.
That’s why I’m not going to the Colgate game.

The "sacrifice" of your absence is appreciated. Some might say that superstition is silly but I do not. Just to play it safe I am wearing my 3-peat teeshirt with my lucky Holy Cross polo shirt (worn for our wins over UConn and Buffalo) on top of it!

I appreciate what is obviously intended as facetiousness. However, I am pretty serious - if superstitious. I have been/driven to Hamilton, first from Worcester in 1968 (I'll let you look up the results but we were 7-10 point favorites and lost badly) which was 6+ hours each way (50-55 mph speed limit in my Classmate's old clunker, no map and no actual idea where Hamilton was) after an all-nighter. Went most years when I lived in a Syracuse suburb 1978-87. Went again at least twice, maybe 3 times while living here in RI (further than Worcester but faster on better roads and better cars). Had pre-game meals with the players' families oftentimes. Met up with Classmates who came up from PA as we froze in snow storms and watched too often lose games, even when Dom Randolph's quick score offense was in play because the "Red" Raiders had ball control offense that kept the ball away from us. Watched as we lost a game (championship on the line as I recall) when we wanted the ball back and tried to allow them to score so we'd get the ball back and maybe win with a last second TD and 2 point conversion. The plan went awry when the 'gate player had an open field and with no Crusader defender near him took a knee at about the 2 yard line so they could run out the clock. [Note: snow and cold don't hinder my attendance, I lived in Syracuse for 9 winters, New Englanders are comparative wimps when it comes to winter] Crusaders do better when I am not physically there in Hamilton. And it is a "sacrifice" as I attend all home games (Covid and surgeries excepted) and most away games like Merrimack, Harvard and I'll even go to Polar Park!

The current administration is violating one of the famous maxims in college athletics: Keep the alumni sullen but not mutinous.(Howard Jones, USC) Currently HC alums are joyful (in fact some are filled with hubris) but expecting the worst. Mediocrity will restore proper balance.
