Good one. We get good people as coaches but HC can't offer them a well oiled turnkey operation. The head coach has to build the operation at HC so it's worth investing in people who have won before.
HC has for decades had a horrendous reputation for being underfunded by the institution as it relates to Athletics. And not just for Hockey.
- The facilities are catching up, but let's not get too confused with what has been built lately. Yes, the Luth is nice. But it isn't the greatest thing in the world. It gets HC back to being average in most cases. I'm sure some of you HC-lifer alums will go crazy at this analysis.
- The Hart Centre Rink is an utter embarrassment at this point in 2022. And more importantly for the Hockey programs, the spaces that matter most (locker rooms and related spaces for the players and coaches) follow suit.
- Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Managers, etc are all UNDER PAID @ Holy Cross. The debatable exceptions as of 2022 might be Men's Basketball and Football Head Coaches.
- Very few HC Athletics programs are "fully funded" in scholarships. And sadly, the ones that are have been brutal in recent years since achieving that status.
- Recruiting budgets continue to trail behind our competitors, across the board.
- Non conference budgets -- same as recruiting budgets.
So, you tell me: If you're a quality, successful, and relatively experienced/veteran Coach (Head or Asst) and you're looking at Holy Cross and/or been head-hunted to consider Holy Cross -- WHY WOULD YOU GO THERE??
Remember the womens soccer coach left for Penn and went to BU quickly after.
