I needed 62 more fannies to reach 13,909, an attendance figure burned into my brain. It was always the amount published for (old) Boston Garden basketball sell outs. Supposedly the real amount was higher but the fire code required listing 13,909.
Still a great crowd for PL/FCS.

Well, based on the photo I have in my living room for the BC game in 1986 they let people park in the breakdown lane of the 290 off ramp and God knows where else. Not sure about shuttles though. I remember going up to that game with my father and trying to park. Can’t remember exactly where we parked but it definitely wasn’t somewhere that anyone has parked for a football game since that day. I don’t recall trouble parking that day. Of course we got there with a keg when the gates opened on Freshman Field. Sunny and cold as I recall. Fun happy crowd today. It’s always great to be on campus.

The phenomenon of people staying at the tailgate rather than going to the game is years long, extending back to my time as a student in the 1990s, at least. Is this a thing at other, football-mad schools (SEC, Big 10) or comparable FCS (Ivies, other PL)?

It was a good crowd, but it didn't feel like a super-big crowd....endzone mostly empty, visiting side kind of sparse....solid HC crowd between the 20s on the home-side all game.
I guess in this day and age, that's about as good as it's going to get at Fitton mostly.

The attendance number sounds great and we should be happy if we get that every game.
Hearing that thousands stay in the parking lot is very sad indeed

We'll be giving up 4,000 fans at Polar Park from today's total.

That's probably an exaggeration (4K on baseball field, not the 13,847 #) but it sure looked like if all those "people" came in, we would have easily broken 15,000 which wouldn't have been far off from the Buffalo attendance. Per a Classmate who parked on the baseball field, he thought they looked to be 18/19 year olds drinking. Now where is the parking gestapo when we needed them? The weather was absolutely perfect and the field was beyond perfection. Pleased to report that I have a group photo of 12 1970 Classmates and would post if I can ever do it well and after I share with my Classmates. Oh, and another appearance by Dick Regan who chatted it up with me and one of my Classmates who knows him very well but didn't know he retuned to Massachusetts until I told him and then DR showed up. DR is becoming a fixture at HC athletic events. A good addition to the crowd. Now if we can get Nate and Marcus to show up!

Even though it seems like a no-brainer now, the Merrimack announcers opened my eyes when they reported a stigma against hiring D-2 coaches for D-1 jobs and congratulated HC for doing so. Crazy as it sounds, it might have been a safer pick inside the "industry" for Marcus to pick Nelson than for Nate to pick Chesney. Coach Chesney gave a glimpse into his character when he said in the halftime interview that his mother told him to "Grow in the place you are." That's music to the ears of a Holy Cross Fan.

Time to book a game fah Fenway Pahk? Their capacity is more appropriate than Polar. Let's get Fordham to use a home game and rent the park like we did at Yankee Stadium.

The baseball and Freshman fields were closed due to a couple heavy rainstorms (one the day of the Bucknell game and they misjudged that one and ruined the baseball field) followed by several inches of snow the week of the game.

You are right. I was thinking of the Flutie game in 84. That 86 game was a nightmare too

There was a large throng that never left the baseball field. Wonder if attendance was taken by number of tickets sold or just those who came through the gates.
