9 wins and a PL Championship brings in 15k for the playoffs Weather dependent. Especially if we get a bye and it’s December.

UMass had 10,0011 in Amherst yesterday, meaning we outdrew them by nearly 4,000.
Wouldn't it be nice to have them on the schedule this year and beat them by multiple scores?
Even one better, BC only led Maine 31-17 late in the 4th quarter yesterday before tacking on a garbage touchdown. This is the same Maine team who got pasted by New Mexico and followed that up with a home loss to so-so Colgate. A game with BC this year would be very, very interesting.

[quote author=" Sons of Vaval" source="/post/249508/thread" A game with BC this year would be very, very interesting. [/quote] I would almost be willing to pay BC for that game! And Arizona just escaped NDSU. Maine and NDSU are not equals as BC and Arizona evidently are not. I want BC!

Interesting in the sense that we’d beat them. We’ll beat them next year and the Chesney journey will have come full circle.

There was a large throng that never left the baseball field. Wonder if attendance was taken by number of tickets sold or just those who came through the gates. Attendance should be tickets sold. It's likely that some of those partying at the tailgate never bought (or had) tickets. I assume student tickets are paperless as well. As for the rumored pre-sale of 13,500 for Parent's Weekend and Fordham, 2,000 students + 4,000 parents = 6,000. 13,500, if true, would suggest a large contingent from Rose Hill.

My take on the subject. First, to answer the last comment/semi-question: outside of Hogan there was a sign directed at the students that there was "a football game today. Free to students, show your ID." That strongly implies that they have to show an ID to "count" as an attendee.
As for the crowd that never left the baseball field, I think I already posted that a Classmate parked on the baseball field said that they were almost exclusively college-aged kids drinking liberally. I'll take a leap of logic that most of them were Holy Cross students who did not show their school ID to count as an attendee and then went back to the parking lot to drink for the remainder of the day.
However, a question came up that I don't know the answer to but should: someone observed that the kids on the baseball field appeared to be looking up. While I've been there and should know better, I don't recall but think there is an electronic scoreboard on the baseball field on the reverse side of the football scoreboard. Is it possible that they were projecting the game live on a baseball scoreboard and the kids were indeed watching the game only electronically sort of like a huge iPhone? If so, they'd get partial credit for watching even though they didn't count as an attendee.

The phenomenon of people staying at the tailgate rather than going to the game is years long, extending back to my time as a student in the 1990s, at least. Is this a thing at other, football-mad schools (SEC, Big 10) or comparable FCS (Ivies, other PL)? I went to a game about 10 years ago at Ohio State. There were way more people outside the stadium than there was inside, but with that being said, it was a sold out Ohio Stadium unlike HC where half the stadium was empty, so perhaps if the stadium could've held 150k there wouldn't have been so many people tailgating and going to adjacent bars.

No real logical reason to do so if the clear the parking lot policy is still in place. Last year when they started the policy, it was pretty enforcement was pretty lax on Homecoming. We won't know until Oct 29 if enforcement yesterday was a function of Homecoming or if the new athletic regime has abandoned it. Probably conflicting ideas about the value of the policy. Athletics wants fannies in the seats supporting the team. If half the people that stayed in the lot go in and half get mad and never show up on campus again, athletics would call that a win. On the other hand, the alumni and development offices like people feeling warm and fuzzy about the school. They would probably call that same scenario a loss

Parents weekend they won't be tailgating in droves.
And its possible they could be watching the game on their phones or tablets.

I’m not a fan of forcing people into the game. Hopefully we continue to beat good teams at home, the gameday experience continues to improve and more people want to come to the game. I will say that many of the current students really aren’t that into HC football. No idea why but it is what it is.

That’s what most students and their families do before the game. Hopefully it’s a pre-game tailgate and not a during game tailgate.

FBS requires an average attendance of 15,000. McGuirk Stadium at UMass has a capacity of 17,000 after upgrades.
The Minutemen host Buffalo on October 15th. It will be a chance to gauge whether we beat a very bad FBS team or a half decent one. UMass beat Stoney Brook easily so that will aid in judging where HC stands competitively also.

In that same vein, Buffalo comes to Ypsilanti next Saturday to face Eastern Michigan (which just defeated Arizona State for the first ever MAC win over a Pac-12 school). EMU is typically not a top team in the MAC but they may be fairly competitive this yr.

My prediction is that Buffalo finishes around .500 in the MAC and wins 4, maybe 5 games overall. From what I've seen, they're by no means a bottom of the barrel FBS team, like UMASS and UCONN. Buffalo went to Myrtle Beach this past weekend and played a very competitive game at Coastal Carolina. CCU DID also get a scare from FCS Gardner-Webb but also beat Army to open the season.

I believe the attendance was boosted by a 2:00 PM start time.
If you like a later start, particularly for September and early October games, please let Kit know. I already have.

Fordham is 1pm rather than noon, so that's something.
