The long extension was for financial protection if/when Ches leaves. Done by schools everywhere with a hot commodity of a coach.

Based on what? Here's a scenario: Chesney just signed a five year extension, he loves HC, he receives tremendous institutional support, and he and his family are deeply connected to the local community. Is it unreasonable to think that with last year's extension the school required a hard commitment of at least two years? Maybe three? No.

Guys he isn't going anywhere
He is here through 2025 unless a top 15 paying school comes in with the deal he and his family can't ignore

I guess you have a great channel of communication that escapes others nhteamer
Things happen beyond money and all things are possible
But to this point there is no evidence to suggest you are right

“Old Dominion has made changes at offensive coordinator and elsewhere, sources confirmed Saturday.
Kevin Reihner, who called offensive plays during a 3-9 season that ended with a 27-20 loss at South Alabama on Nov. 26, has been fired. Kevin Decker, who has spent the past four seasons as offensive coordinator at Fordham, is expected to be named to the same role at ODU.”
A nice step up for him and at the same time Fordham’s high-powered offense has been basically wiped out by graduation and portal.

A terrific coach. If and when Chesney were to leave HC, Decker should be a name we seriously look at.

CBS News Colorado reported Friday that Colorado offered Sanders a contract with a starting salary of "more than $5 million" with incentives that could see the annual pay increase "by roughly 40%" if met.

Why don’t you make it a great move for you? Move to beautiful Denton and start selling your snapshots there. Don’t forget to write.

Don’t know about North Texas but 12-0 Chesney’s stock has never been higher (and is unlikely to be any higher next year). Guys looking to move up get head coach offers when their stock is very high (and not when it slips…and they’re well aware how easily that can happen). (Chez is not really big school OC/DC material but could be head coach material at lower FBS…so you may be thinking along the right lines.)

Next year, we may not run the regular season table with two FBS games on the schedule but, if both Sluka and Dobbs are healthy going into the 2023 FCS playoffs, I think that our chances of advancing past the quarterfinal round of the FCS playoffs may be better than this year’s. HCBC says the team is on a “mission” to win an FCS championship. I hope that he won’t leave us before that mission is accomplished and don’t think he will.

While I would expect North Texas to ultimately go with someone with more regional connections to the Lone Star State, this would not be a bad job for an up-and-comer. Low-end FBS school where expectations are generally lukewarm but with the school also providing the opportunity of a pending move up to a better conference next year (AAC). So effectively, it would be like getting promoted twice in one shot. AND if you succeed, there are a plethora of P5 schools in the region that you could potentially jump to next.

Is there institutional support ? Is there community support ? What is the stadium like ? Will his family feel comfortable there, especially if he gets off to a difficult start ? What is the recruiting situation ? etc

While projecting a repeat quarterfinals appearances is not an easy call, we will without a doubt be heavy favorites to repeat as PL champs next year and make it back to the postseason. Absolutely wild that we will enter next season as FOUR TIME DEFENDING PATRIOT LEAGUE CHAMPIONS.

HCBC says the team is on a “mission” to win an FCS championship. I hope that he won’t leave us before that mission is accomplished and don’t think he will. The HC football program's goal, as enunciated by the previous AD, the current AD, and the HC, is to win a national championship. This goal was set prior to the 2021 season. The goal was set with the buy-in of the HC. This is presumably a goal that Chesney has repeatedly enunciated to the team and to recruits. To take a job at North Texas State would be unlike Chesney, He would be quitting early on not only his goal, but on his t team, and on his incoming recruits. If HC were to win the national championship this year -- unlikely -- then all bets on his tenure are off. But I very much doubt he would take a HC position at North Texas State, regardless The announcers at Saturday's game said that UNH has had only three head coaches in the last umpteen years, A successful program in recent decades, and the head coach didn't jump. Why?

I don’t believe he will leave for a mid level 1A job at $1-1.5 million if we double his salary with great incentives for him, assistants and staff. Eventually perhaps, but as they ended the Gladiator, NOT YET

Fordham has lost their offensive coordinator(Kevin Decker) and offensive line coach (Alex Huettel)- both going to Old Dominion in the same positions. The HC at Old Dominion was a former defensive coach at HC, at the very start of his career. In two years as head coach at Old Dominion, Rahne is 9-16. I guess the prospect of losing Tim DeMorat at Fordham and a bare cupboard, was enough for someone to jump to a ship that may be sinking.

The school that worries me the most in losing Ches's services is about 40 miles east on Rte 9 in Newton. Maybe not this year, but down the road, it's really the most logical step in many ways.
