Winning the game against each other in the 2022 Public Futility Bowl doesn't count. That game should be sponsored by Eversource and National Grid.😀

UCONN actually looks worse this year than they were last year. What happened to that dual threat frosh QB that played OK for them during middle of season last year?
I think the Minutemen have a fighting chance to beat Temple or New Mexico State this year. I see them losing to both MAC opponents, Buffalo and Eastern Mich.
UMASS got some pub this week by scheduling "Pride Night" against Liberty. I'm all for inclusion and equality but this poking of the bear won't end well at McGuirk. Liberty will absolutely steamroll them.

Politically correct stunt - Liberty will ignore the signs and bash the Minutemen - Northwestern field hockey did the same thing when they played Liberty in early Sep - it won’t make any difference to either side of the issue

At least UMass has one win, against Stony Brook.

'UConn dual threat qb' sustained a bad knee injury and is still not full strength - UConn is so desperate at qb, they brought in a transfer last week from Arizona (walk-on there) - I guess they don't care if the kid missed the first two weeks + of class.

At least UMass has one win, against Stony Brook. UCONN has an FCS win this year (CCSU).

UConn 19 - Fresno State 14. Hell has frozen over!

UConn competes at the highest level in MBB and WBB and has a true FBS stadium seating 40,642 vs UMass with an upgraded FCS stadium seating 17,000. UMass has won a recent national championship in men's hockey.
UConn is the major sports franchise in CT while MA has all the major pro sports teams and an FBS/power conference team (which shall not be named🙂) to siphon off fan interest. So, imo it's a heavier lift for UMass to become a force in FBS than UConn but an uphill climb for both.
Meanwhile an hour away from both Universities, HC has found it's sweet spot in FCS.

UConn 19 - Fresno State 14. Hell has frozen over! Big upset indeed. Perhaps they were jet-lagged or just didn't want to play for 60 minutes in the rain in E Hartford? The Fresno State-UCONN game last year was one of the most one-sided games I've ever watched personally, along with 2007 Holy Cross-Georgetown at Fitton. Definitely a huge win for UCONN.

Probably in the minority here but other than when they play Holy Cross, I'm happy for the success of both UConn and UMass (and URI).

Certainly, the players are fighting the good fight. It is my understanding that political pressure pushed both universities into FBS/ big time sports. Evidently some felt big time sports would add value to the marketing of the states' businesses. Some residents are enthusiastic with visions of The OSU sugar plums. Others not so much, especially those who disliked their tax money being used to fill the financial shortfall of the athletics programs. For some reason most residents in the Northeast states are not particularly interested in their state schools' teams. The teams have been abysmal failures for a variety of reasons. Bottom line: Although it is not my decision to make IMO UConn & Mass simply do not belong in the FBS.

They can always take some consolation from the fact that they are not Rutgers with that huge debt.

Clearly the one that was gift wrapped a 40,000 seat stadium should be able to make a go of it.

I recently saw a SUNY Oswego ad in Worcester on the highway saying it was cheaper than UMass....talk about a weird marketing campaign.

The University of Scranton online education used to advertise on a billboard on the 290 S curves near HC. Not sure if that ad is currently there. It's a huge billboard in a section of road where drivers shouldn't be distracted, imo.

Two to zero, now. I think Umass' best chance for a win is in a week or two against NM State.

I have a funny feeling UMASS keeps it close against Buffalo in Amherst this weekend. Was tempted to pick the upset in +5 pick'em but didn't quite pull the trigger. Would be the 2nd straight year that UMASS beat a team that lost to Holy Cross, if they can pull off the unlikely upset.

Maybe OP should change the title of this thread to Countdown to UConn’s 3rd FBS win?
