That’s a good question, ‘Nurple. Don’t know the answer.
Can’t imagine Fr. B was exactly a roadblock in ridding ourselves of the Crusader.

I am partial to the "Heisman House" commercials featuring mascots and former Heisman winners. I believe it is for Nissan. As someone who has a cousin who played baseball for Florida, I generally dislike most things about Florida State athletics, but I do appreciate the pageantry of Chief Osceola on his horse Renegade launching the spear at midfield prior to each game. The Chief Osceola bit could be imitated at Polar Park except for spiking if the city used one of their city owned police horses ridden by the police officer who usually rides it dressed in a suit of armor borrowed from the Higgins Armory Collection now at the Worcester Art Museum. The horse and Knight could just circle the field before kick-off to amp up the fans and perhaps PVR would have cover if it was billed as a city initiative to promote the city owned park and the Art Museum. PVR would have to be motivated to OK this however as blowback would be likely. The safe response from PVR would be not to distract from the performance of our great football team.

Here's a "refresher course" on the subject of the Crusader mascot: Fr. Boroughs took it upon himself to go beyond how the Crusader visual representation aligned with the definition and eliminated the visual representation in its entirety. As I've posted before, I was told by the BOT chair (not Mahoney) that the logo/mascot was "not a dead issue" but he refused to characterize Fr. Boroughs as exceeding his authority. My distinct impression from the tone was that he would not criticize the president publicly or otherwise but considering he told me that there were a number of Board members who strongly disagreed with the decision, my take was Fr. B went too far but none on the Board were going to call him out.

Does anyone happen to have a suit of armor around the attic? Or perhaps a fluffy knight mascot costume we can put a purple cloak on?

The BoT calls the shots on the mascot. The current chair of the BoT is a woman; the majority of the leadership team are women. The M;F student ratio is 45:55.
I very much doubt that the BoT has much current interest in resurrecting the Crusader mascot. As Mahoney said, they are done with medieval crusaders. Besides the crusader moniker was bestowed on Holy Cross sports teams by a 32nd Degree Mason from Woostah.. Masons are big on crusader symbiology, I don't know if Catholics are still excommunicated for joining the Masons, but that was certainly the case when the Boston Herald sportswriter penned the appellation.

I dont know whether i should laugh or cry
This is a bloody mascot for sports teams and fans that want to enjoy the past as well as today
Perhaps political and if i need to delete this i will, but life is hard enough we dont always need to be politically correct to satisfy a few students and faculty members who want to let the world know they won another battle- still not sure who or what they are fighting but they should have more important causes in their life
Peace

William Powell and Gloria Steinem might get credit but if I remember correctly, Mr. McCann gave us a similar quote from one Marcus Aurillius

Glofia Steinem and the women's movement certainly took power that nobody was giving. The Restore the Crusader movement, although equally justified🙂, doesn't have the same oompf.🤨

The woke movement in education was alive at the time, but like most movements they have a short shelf life and it might come to a screeching halt in the months ahead--that is the wisdom of age - watched this horror movie a thousand times but the good survive

The quote is most commonly attributed to Roseanne Barr.

Well, I am sure when you guys get to the pearly gates, you will find lots of other alums there still steaming about some do gooder getting rid of Old Black Joe and yelling about Brooksie admitting women. I hope there are kegs in heaven so you can all sit around and have a few and complain. (The guys griping about not joining the Big East will probably drink all the beer.)

Yeah, we’re real knuckle draggers Can’t see where I said that EDIT: (Now, 12 hours later at a computer and not on my phone) 1. The comment was supposed to be taken as a mild jibe that once again we are going back over a conversation we have previously milked for all of its worth. 2. I might not have bothered to comment, but the thread went from reminiscing to battering the libs pretty quickly with comments such as: "Yes absolutely, just ignore the snowflakes!" and "but life is hard enough we dont always need to be politically correct to satisfy a few students and faculty members who want to let the world know they won another battle- still not sure who or what they are fighting but they should have more important causes in their life" and "The woke movement in education was alive at the time, but like most movements they have a short shelf life and it might come to a screeching halt in the months ahead--that is the wisdom of age - watched this horror movie a thousand times but the good survive." So, no matter what DiMarz may have intended, some were determined to use this to make a few points for their political agenda.. Sorry if you can't take a little push back. Oh, and I have been part of the HC community for more than 40 years. I don't recall a real horse ever at a game.
