L/S virtually no students at Harvard Stadium. Looking at the video clip of the BC hockey exhibition, the Hart was jammed and obviously the students preferred to see a home hockey exhibition than an away “real” football game. To each his (her) own. At least the showed up which is a surprise given the level of student engagement outside of the power conferences

Agree about the October vacation. Cousy Cup appears to be a way for teams to compete to see who can amp up spirit as measured by attendance. Maybe as a percentage increase over average attendance to make it a level playing field?
Doesn't sound like it effects non-student-athletes.

The students have off all of next week. My son’s plan is to go to the game and then head home Sat night. I suspect a fair number of students will leave Friday after classes. The number of students at Holy Cross who typically postpone going home for Fall break to stick around for a football game could fit in a phone booth. This ain’t 2010! A new day is dawning. My son is going with a group of fellow Frosh who, while mostly quite skinny, could not fit in a phone booth.

Surprising mind set: decide between (1)heading home and living under mom & dad’s rules for a week or (2) hanging out with your buddies at college, playing ball during the day and drinking (responsibly) at night and rolling out of bed on Saturday in time to see your schoolmates pummel Bucknell Who says they are heading home instead of some place warm for a week vacation? I find it nuts that Holy Cross gives a week off in October to the students. They just came back in late August. Do they really need a week off? No it has something to do with reducing the amount of time that students occupy the dorms, which I guess brings some costs down? It's not about them not being there that week, but something about how that week off then pushes winter break back a week or something. And second semester now starts super late, after MLK Day. They started this right after I left. When I was there, I loved normal Columbus Break -- we got a 4 day weekend whereas most schools only got 3. For whatever reason they gave us the Monday AND the Tuesday off. Holy Cross also never observed Labor Day, which would've normally been either the first or second Monday of classes. It's funny, even when it was only a 4 day weekend, EVERYONE left campus except for fall athletes (+hockey) and people who lived on the West Coast. I worked for the football team so I was there every year (we played Brown all four years and all four were shootouts) -- campus was dead but it was super relaxing and you got to spend time with people you normally wouldn't hang out with. Meanwhile, MLK Weekend, which was a 3-day weekend a couple weeks after our return from winter break back then, everyone stayed and partied.

/\ My daughter’s school has midterms this week and off next week for ‘fall break’ so it may be a trend.

Perhaps it is Covid related. My school nurse wife always liked these breaks in the academic year. She felt it allowed for greater cleaning/disinfecting of the building and "aired out" the place. Maybe there is a general cleaning scheduled for dorms and class buildings that week at HC. I may have things mixed up, but are classes off for a week and then the students returning for Parents' Weekend?

I think that fall break is a time for kids to come home to see friends who have it the same week and then go visit friends at other schools who are on a slightly different schedule.

Does anybody know the parking (non-tailgate) situation is like. First time for this Crusader going to Polar Park and I'm driving in from the Boston area so I have no clue how to navigate downtown Worcester tbh.
Is regular parking close? What's the fee? How long is the walk?
Any information would be a big help!

Parking is not a problem for Polar Park. You will find all you need here: www.milb.com/worcester/ballpark/parkingI have parked at Union Station garage, Federal garage and Library Lot (15, 14 and 8 on the map) -- all within an easy 10 min walk or so. Note there is special info posted at the above link for some limited tailgate (and tailgate lite -- no grills) options.

I am shocked to see that I agree with Foley! "I find it nuts that Holy Cross gives a week off in October to the students."
The Holy Cross campus shines in the fall, sports and activities are in full swing, the weather is usually great, the leaves are at their peak. What the heck? It IS nuts!

I heard the Irish Club on Temple Street, across from St. John’s Church has an event the day of the game so there will be no game day parking offered there.

I went to a Red Sox game at Polar Park a couple weeks ago and parked at a surface lot on Lamartine St. between Meade and Scott Sts. $15 with easy in and out. Just about one block to Polar.

Hopefully HC would be far better hosts than the Bison were for that playoff.

In case anyone else missed this, I just got an E-mail from Holy Cross reminding me that the ticket to the game which came with my season tickets will NOT be honored. I should have gotten an E-mail from the Sox with my ticket. Now I did get an E-mail with info I didn't care about. I did not go looking for an attachment with tickets because I thought I had a ticket and deleted the E-mail.
Glad I got the E-mail because I would have been mighty angry if I showed up with the ticket Holy Cross sent me and I wasn't admitted

Most people skim through email so somebody could be sitting on someone else's lap if a seat is sold twice. Could end up well, never know.😂

As today's email stated, the tickets to use came from - ordertracking@tickets.com - which I received on Sept 28

When I was a student, I remember classes ending typically on a Monday, Tue-Thu serving as study days and then finals running Friday to Friday (no Sunday exams). Seemed to be that way both in the fall and spring. I remember getting home maybe two weeks-ish prior to Christmas and returning right before MLK Day. We would then have about two weeks between the end of spring finals and graduation, which allowed ample time to take advantage of Cape Week if one preferred.

Tom, here was my tip-off: When I got my season tickets and parking passes, it included a supposed parking pass for the Polar Park game. Since last year I had to pay for my parking despite the very expensive PC seats, I was pretty sure that this year wasn't going to be "free parking" and called my HC ticket contact immediately. He said that my suspicion was correct and that both the make-believe seat tickets and the parking pass for the EBW game were just for their statistical purposes and that I needed to get ans use the tickets that I would get from the WooSox tickets and the same went for parking.

Not to sound like Debbie Downer, but I hope this is the last year at Polar Park for a while. It’s a terrible venue to try and watch a game. Anyone who attended last year’s game knows that the park is not set up to watch a football game. I spent the entire game standing in the concourse just so that I could see most of the field, albeit at quite a distance away. The parking is also extremely difficult and the tailgating options are almost nonexistent. It is a nice novelty, but I’m hoping it’s not an annual event in my opinion. I’d prefer we bring in some lights next year and schedule a night game at Fitton instead.

I do think that in the years where there's only 4 games at Fitton, they need to be spaced out differently.

Columbus Day break was lengthened because so many students wanted to do service projects as a spring break alternative the school couldn't accommodate them all. The week off in the Fall gives more opportunity for our young Crusaders to be men and women for others
