UND is ranked #3 in the country and picked to finish second in the NCHC preseason poll.
This figures to be an uphill weekend for our guys, but let's hope we are competitive in both games.
Puck drops tonight at 8:00 and tomorrow at 7:00.

There is a reserve of fondness in North Dakota for Holy Cross as a result of our epic win over Minnesota in the days of yore, which game was played IN North Dakota. I love to see us schedule games like this. #GoCrossGo !

Video of the game is premium content but the game is available on radio broadcast - go to the North Dakota website for the link (which should be on our page)

UND must be giving us a nice check for our efforts - anyone have a guess what the amount might be

I gather the "era of good feelings" with ND is over.

5-0 after 2. We played well for the first 10 minutes as both teams had a bunch of neutral zone play. The skill level and speed really came out as they hemmed us in and caused some turnovers.
Also used the speed to split our D on odd man rushes on a couple of the goal. Pretty sure the 4th goal was offside. Not sure why Riga didn't challenge it. Gale playing well in relief.

11 NHL draft picks, NoDak is the big time. Humbling but LT hopefully a good experience for the team. Atlantic Hockey is just a step or 6 below the other D1 conferences. sacred heart (#2 pre-season pick) lost 6-1 to providence (not a vintage PC team), Mercyhurst lost 6-3 to RPI, and Canisius lost 5-2 to Penn State. And BC lost 4-0 to Quinnipiac.
Regroup and focus on the Atlantic Hockey games, be top 8 and that shows good progress.

Just pointing out like you did last week that the BC exhibition win, while always great beating them, was not meaningful when competing against a top 5 team.

I'm no expert but 27 saves (HC shots on goal?) sounds like we weren't overwhelmed but got beat by a super goalie.

Our starting goalie, Jason Graande (Bentley transfer), gave up five goals on 14 shots. Have never seen that poor a save percentage in a game before.
Thomas Gale, who relieved Graande midway through the second, gave up one goal on 17 shots.
Let’s see how BR handles game two.

Sounds like a one-sided goalie contest but it’s possible the shots that came when the game was closer and they were flying around the ice on opening night were of a different quality than the later ones while up 4-5 goals. I did think Gale was pretty good last year.

Grande wasn't stellar but was not bad. The ND forwards regularly split our D and had a bunch of 2 on 1. Gale was better than Grande.

Frosh Louden Hogg played well in goal for us Saturday night - coach Riga will have to evaluate his options in net during these October games

Going to be interesting to see how Riga uses all 3 goalies this year. Grande had the toughest draw IMO with a lot of odd man rushes and poor defensive play. Gale mostly shut the door but faced fewer quality chances. Hogg was solid all around.
