Massey says that Monmouth is a 6 point favorite and gives them a 71% chance for the win on Sunday. Massey makes Monmouth a 13 point favorite over S. Carolina State at the Hart tomorrow. If you get to see the game, that should say what our game will be like on Sunday.

Not likely We will try to play a much slower pace than SCS is prone to play. hard to see SCS being competitive. hopefully and probably HC can stay with Monmouth

Monmouth is 2-2 with losses to Syracuse (by 21) and South Carolina (by 1 in OT). It is easy to see why they are favored on Sunday.

That line-up looks deep. Hey, at least AT is taller than their guy [yeah, right].

With Monmouth at 84 in kenpom, we have a chance at quite an upset . We are at 220.

With Monmouth at 84 in kenpom, we have a chance at quite an upset . We are at 220. Pomeroy predicts a 67-64 Monmouth win, so not a major upset. If this game were on a neutral floor, they'd be favored by 6-7. We were predicted to lose to Harvard by ten, so that was a bigger upset. Granted, Pomeroy didn't factor Harvard being without two of their top players.

Monmouth has been and is clearly a top 100 team. Harvard is not.

Less when you draw 1600, not all of whom root for the home team.

Yes, the difference between home and road is about 7 points in most models - which, as you point out, is why HC was a bigger underdog to Harvard than they are to Monmouth.

Less when you draw 1600, not all of whom root for the home team. Surprisingly the various models have shown that the size of the crowd contributes very little to home court advantage. When I looked at it a few years ago, there was as big a home court advantage in the PL as there was in the P5 conferences.

I saw the game. We need to play a very good game to get a win..Monmouth is deep (12 players used, subed 5 at a time), they are fast, quick and shoot the ball. The point guard is super quick, and distributes the ball to his wings off penetration,, and the wings all knock down 3's. Monmouth plays mostly M-2-M, and can be beaten back door, they are aggressive. They want to run, and push the ball at every chance. They will shoot the 3 off the break, we have to get to shooters right away..
We have to slow them down and limit the number of possessions they have. We can't turn the ball over, that will lead to fast break chances for them, and they will attack the rim. Our zones have to be very active, get out to every shooter, and limit penetration. Monmouth also has good size at the 5..we have to keep them off the boards..I think a big factor for us is to stay out of foul trouble, we have to get in good position quickly on D...and of course MAKE SHOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are going to have to a lot sharper - especially at the defensive end and in taking care of the ball - than we were against SC State to have a shot tomorrow. As hoops noted elsewhere, the HC match-up was pretty good, resembling (to my unschooled eyes) a 2-3 when the play went down low and a 3-2 on the perimeter, with defenders attacking the ball in the corners and on the arc at the foul line extended - our guys seem really focused on challenging the ball outside. Some breakdowns in the paint area gave SC State a few easy buckets, but it looks like this could become an effective primary defense. The 1-3-1, with Benzan running the baseline, didn't impress at all (SCS' runs in each half occurred when we switched to the 1-3-1), and the transition defense is weak - SCS had a 10-0 edge in fast-break points, and our last three opponents have a combined 20-4 edge in that department.
Monmouth has been one of the best teams in the country turning over opponents the last few years, so hope our guys are more composed than they were yesterday when the pressure inevitably comes their way.
Really liked the way the offense was running, especially our clock management - Holy Cross is now ranked 349th in possessions per game, and believe we can be very successful playing at that purposeful pace over the course of the season. It's one of the best ways to knock a fast-paced team off its preferred game.
Hart looked great, good crowd - looking forward to the test tomorrow.

We will have to bring our "A" game if we are to have a chance at a "W"!

Doesn't matter which game the team brings. I am bringing all 4 kids. They always bring HC good luck. So, you can comfortably mark tomorrow down as a W.

Good to hear '92.
Gotta get the kids lined up in the bleachers and start imitating the Monmouth bench histrionics.
