I ended up purchasing 'The Field of 68' College Basketball Almanac for the upcoming season. It provided some interesting quotes directly from Nelson himself on the state of the program:
“This is my first time in four years where we have a lot of experience and some older guys,” said Nelson. “We saw the impact this summer.” That impact shows up in myriad ways: the way the team approaches workouts, the consistency of effort level, the culture that permeates to the newcomers."
Offensively, the Crusaders struggled to finish inside. Per HoopMath, Holy Cross ranked 342nd in field goal percentage at the rim, and Nelson acknowledged that deficiency. “We got to our spots, but we missed too many easy shots. We’ve focused on finishing this offseason.” Octave’s slashing ability and Wilbar’s size and skill should help alleviate this to an extent."
"if the true definition of an X-factor is someone who can drastically change the outcome for his team, then Montgomery is the obvious choice. “When he played well, it felt like we played really well,” said Nelson. His coach is not just blowing smoke here, either. When Montgomery scored 12 or more points, Holy Cross went 8-2. The other side of that stat is even more striking: when he did not reach that 12-point mark, the Crusaders went 1-20. Such a stark difference in outcomes underscores how important the versatile wing is."
The writers highlight that Octave could be 'Newcomer of the Year' and earmark Batchelder to make an impact as a freshman. Sadly, they picked us to finish 9th like the coach's poll.

That Montgomery stat is misinterpreted. When a team loses as many games as we did, there are most definitely other players who have similar, if not as extreme, stats. The author makes it sound as if the sole determining factor in the outcome of the all our games was how Montgomery played. I watched many games and believe that was far from the truth. Although there are quotation marks at the end of that paragraph, but none that start the sentences, I believe the words are the writer’s not Nelson’s which come at the start of the paragraph.

Glad to know Nelson got the players in all of the right spots, but they just missed the shots.
Hopefully shots fall this season.

Did that paragraph about Montgomery omit any parts ? "If Montgomery is the capital “X”, then tough-minded freshman Will Batchelder is the lowercase version. Nelson has had great success grooming young guards: Kyrell Luc won the Patriot’s Rookie of the Year last season, and R.J. Johnson landed on the all-rookie team back in 2020-21. They’re now at St. Bonaventure and Charleston Southern, respectively, so Batchelder could be Holy Cross’ latest freshman phenom. The 6-1 guard from nearby Newburyport is simply “a basketball player,” says his coach. He can score or distribute, depending on what the situation calls for, and he should be a key cog from the jump" This rounds out their X-Factor section of the preview. I agree that the Stat isn't perfect, but Montgomery is clearly a major factor for this group. If he plays well, I tend to agree with the writers, we'll be better for it. I've always liked his skill-set and while I thought he would have taken a bigger leap last year, its not too uncommon for a lanky wing player to bloom in his upperclassmen years

Liking what appears to be throwback home jerseys with Holy above the number and Cross below the number. Not as keen on the black jerseys. Oh well!

But so far he has proven he just can’t coach, but I want him as a player if I am coaching this is his final chance to deliver and I wish him success, but the record speaks so far

I heard RJ talking to AVB last Saturday about the throwbacks... Both seemed to like the look! Font is slightly smaller than the old jerseys but the font looks to be a team block type. Silver collar stripe is neat. Little retro touch. I also liked the mid 2000s Times New Roman type font.

Looks like the team deleted the tweet with the uniform combos, but fortunately I saved the throwback photo on mine. I agree they look pretty sharp compared to the others which look JV.

Looks like new home units for the non-throwbacks as well. Those have Holy Cross above the number. I always liked the Holy above and Cross below the number look.

A favorite scene from Butch Cassidy:
The late, great Strother Martin.
Let's hope our colorfulness has better results than Mr. Garris.
