This NIL thing is getting out of hand in the football (and basketball) hotbeds around the country - but we in the Northeast see pro sports overshadowing the BC's and Rutgers' of the world who play in Power 5 conferences but don't have the huge NIL cash to throw around. Here's on article on Rutgers which has a mediocre program and not much enthusiasm from the big corporate honchos in the NY-Phila corridor. I think the same problem exists in Chestnut Hill where you have to recruit kids with NIL deals already in place. I hate to see these programs lose out on attracting talent because of sub-par NIL inducements. www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/2022/10/nil-at-rutgers-two-paths-to-paying-athletes-but-familiar-problems-stand-in-the-way-politi.html

BC jumped at joining the ACC for the money, certainly not for the traditional rivalries or geographic symmetry.
Live by the sword, die by the sword.
And get Lanced next fall.🤣 Go Cross!

Any of the P5 schools could've and should've seen this coming for 20 years. As the post above me states "live by the sword, die by the sword". As soon as NIL started, I began wondering how the second tier of the P5 was going to be able to compete with the absolute machines at the top. I'm sorry but there's no way long term that the likes of BC, Duke, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Rutgers, Georgia Tech and Wake Forest (hope they're enjoying their little run now) are going to be able to compete at that level in football. Rutgers will continue to get absolutely clobbered in the Big Ten....but at least they are reaping the financial benefits of that gargantuan BTN deal.

Even with that Rutgers athletics is in the hole for so much it may never get out. By that I refer to the NJ taxpayers who suffer through this and pay premium prices for mediocrity.

Many years ago my late dear friend, George said "No one wants to die for dear old Rutgers."

"“It’s been made very clear that (NIL) can’t be used for recruiting inducement, and it can’t be pay for play,” Hobbs said. “I think there are some schools out there that are operating in a very gray area right now. Maybe beyond a gray area. That’s up to the NCAA and others to start policing, but we’re going to do it the right way.”"
I'm not sure how that's possible once the court case was adjudicated in favor of allowing NILs. The athletes are going to know (or, should I say, know already) where their talents will reap the most benefits.

Is it possible that an adult could be that naive? Hopefully he's just being disingenuous
