The blot is not merely on Pitino & co., it is also primarily on the NCAA. And, Hall of Fame Coach Few of Kansas U got a slap on the wrist by the NCAA for recruiting violations. Abhorrent! Self, not Few. Or did Few get bagged for something too? We've had 8 coaches since I matriculated to HC. Kansas has had 8 in their history, which dates back to 1898. Thank you.

The prior four spanning 44 years is probably better than most. I think there are a lot more revolving doors in college hoops than Jim Boeheims

Boeheim 46 years, 1 ring. The university has got a lot of milage out of both. I'm not a huge fan but he has kept his school relevant in BB which is what many, many schools are trying for.
What you can't do is have a great run (Carter/Duffner or RW) and then fall off a cliff and disappear for several years through several coaches if you want to remain a factor in a sport and have it be a draw for your school.

Funny you should mention Boeheim- when I was manager of the team we kept running into Syracuse (played in the same tournament as them, then played a regular season game at Manley Field House). The head coach was Roy Danforth, a very personable/quotable guy. Boeheim was his assistant. He was always around, never said "boo". And pretty successful, made the Final Four once and had a bunch of good teams (Dave Bing and others). Quite a change when Roy went to Tulane (his wife came from down there); but it sure worked out.

On the Fairfield Board, it was noted that Steve Masiello, former coach at Manhattan, has become an unpaid advisor to Rick Pitino at Iona.

Masiello, Gallagher...the hot stove league is heating up. Pitino's jabs at Iona "we have no money" and "They don't pay anyone" are huge feathers in Iona's cap in my opinion.
Talk about the art of the deal, Iona is getting two veteran head coaches in exchange for one standard MAAC head coaching salary and the opportunity to rehab two careers.
Pitino is self centered to undervalue what Iona is giving him and overvalue what he is giving them. But we knew that about him. To me it is an even win-win deal.
Some say Pitino benefits the most because Iona sold their soul but I don't think less of the Institution. I hardly thought of them before and now they are at least in the periphery with a winning D-1 MBB team in the region.
