Welcome Maiya! Is D.O.O. the same as D.O.B.O.? Since HC has this position, I wish her great success.
However, I wish their was a National Bureau of College Affordability that could issue a regulation limiting paid staff to a maximum of one for every four student athletes in any sport. Let Colleges use any titles they want but only have three paid staff for basketball teams with medical resources such as trainers exempted.
It's easier to forgive a couple hundred billion of student loans than do anything to regulate spending. No one seems to connect the dots and few if any college is prepared to unilaterally disarm in the spending race to attract applicants. Big Brother is needed.

If they didn't have the money, they likely would not fill the position, in the great scheme of things, she probably gets paid less than the maintenance staff.

Similar to a paid internship and well worth it for the D.O.O. HC "has the money" but how long did they debate on whether to use that money to reduce tuition by ten bucks a year instead which would have the same approximate cost? The sad thing would be if a D. O. O. is assigned tasks that otherwise would be completed by one of the four coaches but doesn't do them as well as the coaches would do them. At some point in staff expansion the law of diminishing returns kicks in.

Well the generic responsibilities are fairly modest and likely vary from program to program:
All aspects of travel (hotels, flights, charter busses). Game Day Operations (shoot around/practice times, officials, pre-game and post-game meals). Day to Day operations (facility scheduling and upkeep, all program purchases, video work). Gear, Housing, Budget Allocation, being an academic liaison (checking classes, weekly assignment sheets, etc.). Scheduling, managing managers, and doing anything else to help our program.

It's not a new position, meaning it wasn't just created, right? They are just filling it a bit late.....? It's just equity in action....4 coaches plus an Ops person...equal resources for both the men's and women's hoops teams. That's the way it should be (and has been in recent seasons). Welcome!

It's like a municipality that gives a perk to the fire dept. The police, highway and school departments will all want it, too, for equity. Wait til they find out the perk was a big vat of nine alarm chili.🙂 I don't expect to change anything but think the recent forgiveness of Federal student loans could be a catalyst for the Federal Government to require a slower rate of tuition increases at colleges who accept federal Student loan checks. I have nothing against basketball programs but think the DOBO would be an option to cut if colleges were required to slow tuition increases. It would take a few more places because the DOBO or DOO only costs ten bucks a year or so per student at an HC sized school and less at the big universities.
