Not usually where I look on the Holy Cross website but went to the Chaplain's Office page and while I didn't expect it to be like it was in the 60s as almost nothing is, a very interesting make-up now that reflects the diversity on campus and, I suspect the office is greatly enlarged from "the good old days." No doubt when we had many more Jesuits on campus, the chaplain's office could be much smaller as there were Jesuits in every dorm and on most corridors and they functioned as de facto chaplains. But now the staff includes 11 people and only one is a Jesuit/priest, Jim Hayes '72. Below is a summary with religions presumed based on background and a note as to their roles. A number of lay HC grads but not most: Chaplain Director: Catholic lay woman HC '84Assistant: Catholic layman (Latinx specialty) Associate: Catholic lay woman HC '99 (retreats & LGBTQIA+ do they keep adding letters to this group?) Associate: Catholic Jesuit HC '72 (Mission) Assistant: Baptist minister male (Protestants) Associate: Catholic layman (SPUD) Hospitality Director: (Campion House) religion indeterminable woman Assistant: Catholic layman (Athletes) Associate: Catholic lay woman HC '99 (Domestic Immersion) Director Music: Catholic layman Office Coordinator: Catholic lay woman www.holycross.edu/faith-service/office-college-chaplains/meet-chaplains

Big change from the days when the confessional booth was the Chaplain's office.

HC has to have a hook or several hooks for the price they charge. A robust Chaplains office is one way to separate itself from other NLACs.
