Good news. MM is a great fit for HC.

The longer contact could be a plus for recruiting.

This means Coach Magarity was already signed through the 2024-5 season. I hope Coach sent a thank you card to Madison, Wisconsin. I'm not criticizing Coach Magarity and agree she is a good fit at HC but her one winning season was accomplished without significant contribution from her three recruits.
I am not clear whether the great season last year was due primarily to coaching or to a once in a decade talent like Avery.
So, I am a fan of Coach Magarity but if like Walter Mitty I became AD for a day, I would have held off a season before deciding on this extension.
Winning seasons in the next few years are not guaranteed. It will be interesting to see how a team of contributors without a star will fare this season. If HC has another 20 win campaign with solid contributions from Coach Mo's two recruiting classes this earlier than necessary extension will be a feather in Kit's cap.

She had a similar quick start at UNH and then went back to being mediocre...

Are you saying that getting a head coach position at Holy Cross and winning a regular season title is mediocre? Longsuffering, you are right about not having guarantees for the future. But, bfoley, neither are we bound by the past. And, I need to add, Holy Cross is not UNH. Perhaps HC has more to offer possible recruits.

Kit has more sources for helpful feedback then we do. As an example maybe he has documentation that our current freshmen turned down higher rated programs to come to HC for all the school offers and the culture in the WBB program Coach MO has developed.
Maybe the unofficial messaging he gets from WBB players and assistants is 100% positive compared to 80% positive department wide or other hard to quantify non-public factors such as that.
But it's 2022 and he is committing Holy Cross to 2028 which adds up to a lot of dinero and no flexibility for a long time.

Even if Avery was a “once in a decade talent”, it is very rare for any one player to create a “great season” alone.

Or UNH is actually easier to win than Holy Cross with less academic standards? She had one good year where they flamed out in the postseason just like they did last year at HC. Her final two years at UNH she went 16-35 and 10-22 in America East. So I would consider that less than mediocre. Those were her ninth and tenth seasons in Durham as she had a CAREER record of 146-155 and 82-76 (that includes a 15-1 season in America East). I would consider mediocre.

We'll find out this season as eight of twelve players are Magarity recruits or transfer. Our three juniors and one senior are solid contributors but will need help from the eight underclassmen. Junior Janelle Allen is most ready to break out imo.

I like Magarity. No idea what the terms of the extension are but she’s won a regular season title which is a lot more than most other coaches running around on the Hill. This season could be a little tough as we learn to live without Avery but hopefully the future is bright and we’re in the top third of the league most years.

Both realistic goals, IMHO, since first is always in the top third.
