Most competitive conference-Missouri Valley? Top 8 teams are either 9-4 or 8-5. Or most mediocre ?

Most competitive conference-Missouri Valley? Top 8 teams are either 9-4 or 8-5. For those wondering how so many teams can have such good records, the bottom two teams in the league (Illinois-Chicago and Evansville) have a collective record of 1-25. Over the last few years, Evansville fired Walter McCarty after less than two seasons for misconduct and then fired Todd Lickliter after two seasons for winning only 25% of his games. The current coach has been there less than one year but so far no success. They currently are ranked 353rd in the nation.

"Good crowds" is a relative term. We'd love to see 3,500 back in the Hart Center. Schools like PC would poo-poo that number. Duke? NC? Syracuse? 3,500 would be laughable. But your point is still valid.

Traditional rivalries that span generations, a community team, and a winning record, will bring fans to the fields, the pitch, and the courts. In the PL we currently lack true rivalries, and other than football we haven’t seen many seasons or teams deliver winning records.
But with a few adjustments it is possible…..

I just don't think it is in the cards. I think our best bet as HC hoop fans is the PL gets better and I am not holding my breath on that one. Sagarin has the PL ranked at #27 among 32 conferences. Meanwhile, the PL's big brother is ranked 13th. I realize the IL has many advantages over the PL but to be ranked that far below them is unacceptable. Bucknell and HC need to step it up in a big way. The PL should be able to do much better than being near the very bottom of all conferences. I'm just not sure what the answer is or if it is even doable. Same applies to football with HC being the obvious exception to the malaise.

COACHING As Chesney has shown This. If HC’s program had the success that Colgate has had over the last several years, we’d be getting 2,500+ / game. Remember when football’s attendance was between 6,000 - 7,000 a game when we weren’t very good? Now it’s routine to see attendance in five figures. Winning will bring fans.

Gave two of my single sons a chance to attend one of three games-my treat
HC vs Navy Colgate vs AU UNC vs Duke
I don’t know why but they opted for a game at Cameron four rows behind the bench, but they did despite having no connection to either school
Yes, they are having a great time in Durham

I wish I could explain how we got spanked by the worst team in the PL at home, then beat the best team in the PL three days later. No idea which AU team will show up on a given day.

St. Mary's hands Gonzaga their second league loss, and is sitting on top of the WCC with a 2 game lead on the Zags.

Loved the McKeon Pavilion (capacity 3,500) atmosphere, reminiscent of a half century ago at a Catholic college's newly opened gym of similar capacity. You don't have to belong to a region's Power 5 conference to generate excitement.

St. Mary's hands Gonzaga their second league loss, and is sitting on top of the WCC with a 2 game lead on the Zags. Stayed up late to watch most of the second half and the OT. St. Mary’s was down the whole game from the time it was 4-3 and down 8 with about 7 minutes to go in regulation. Eventually tied it through the heroics of freshman guard Aidan Mahaney and then finally got the lead in OT and won it. Crusader1970 had told me about Mahaney several weeks ago but I hadn’t had a chance to see him until last night. He’s the real deal.

This comes after many years of true attendance less than 500 in Bridgeport. In fact I once counted the attendance at a Fairfield game I attended and got a figure of 240. The key for Fairfield will be whether they can sustain the 3500 sellouts on campus if the team doesn't improve over the next few years.
