St. Mary's hands Gonzaga their second league loss, and is sitting on top of the WCC with a 2 game lead on the Zags. St. Marys is the real deal! WAC should easily have two teams in the dance again this year. Of course you're referring to the West Coast Conference (WCC). The WAC hasn't been a multi-bid league since 2010.

This comes after many years of true attendance less than 500 in Bridgeport. In fact I once counted the attendance at a Fairfield game I attended and got a figure of 240. The key for Fairfield will be whether they can sustain the 3500 sellouts on campus if the team doesn't improve over the next few years. The week before against now first place Rider they drew only 2388.
You make it sound like Fairfield is DREADFUL...They are 10-13 overall and 6-7 in the MAAC.

You make it sound like Fairfield is DREADFUL...They are 10-13 overall and 6-7 in the MAAC. I never said or implied that Fairfield was dreadful. Try reading the post a little more carefully. Or a lot more carefully. One thing I can tell you is that almost no Fairfield fans are happy with their team currently. It should be noted that a team that is 6–7 in the MAAC and ranks 241st in the nation is not particularly good. As for the attendance against rider, you should know two things: First, Rider brings no fans at all to their away games; and secondly, that game was on a Sunday afternoon, competing against the NFC championship game. A better comparison would be their game in late January on a Friday night against a mediocre Canisius. That game was almost a sellout.

I was at that Rider game so I was well aware of when the game was played. Weird that their head coach didn't even play or involved with basketball in college.

Laf over BU in OT by 3 Navy easily over Army ‘gate easily over Bucknell Fordham won at Davidson 73-71 and are now 20-5 (last 20 win season was in 1992 in the PL) For those BC haters, NC St ran them out of their gym 92-62

Fordham is a fun team to watch
Hope we pick up Sachs, Paulson, RP Jr. To move forward
I could be more aspirational but very comfortable if one of theses three took over
Actually a staff of RP with Sachs, RJ, and a surprise asst like hoops would be magical

Hopefully for Ram fans, Urgo doesn’t pull a Neptune.

LaSalle knocks off UMass to move to 6-6 in league play. They sit in 8th place in the 15 team A-10. 3 games out of first place.
Not sure how they will close the season, but Fran Dunphy should be in the running for A-10 coach of the year with the turnaround he is leading. This program has been struggling for many years. Good for him for going back to his alma mater and making an impact.

Jacob grandison played 31 mins off the bench today in Duke’s OT loss at UVA and scored 11 points on 4 of 7 shooting

But Urgo is the run away winner I think Urgo is in the driver’s seat but I’m not ready to crown him yet. Fordham is 8-4 in the league currently with 6 games remaining. Let’s see how they close.

My dad and I have been going to most of the Fordham home games this year, like old times. It's been a lot of fun watching them and great to see the student section going totally ape. I had the pleasure of sitting first row behind the Ram bench on Wednesday. Planning on going to Bonnies game this coming week.
I think you could flip a coin between Urgo and Dunphy right now, let's see how Fordham finishes. I'm absolutely fuming I can't go to the A-10 tournament at Barclays next month because I have to go to a wedding in Jacksonville -- old neighborhood friend whose practicing law down in the Sunshine State now.

On the flip side, Loyola is right at the bottom of the A-10. IMHO they were a much better fit for The Valley.

Portland State was down 1 inbounding the ball 94 feet from the hoop with 4/10 of a second left. Kid throws an 86 foot inbounds pass and a teammate catches and shoots in one motion. Perfect bank shot; PS wins.

Perfect bank shot; PS wins. Perhaps even more amazing because Northern Arizona had made its own buzzer beater to take the lead before the PSU game winner.

Another wild ending was Mizzou-Tennessee. 4.2 left, Vols ahead by 2 and shooting a 1 and 1. Official kills play just as Vol player is shooting and calls a foul on a Tennessee player positioned on the block. Didn’t look all that bad but nonetheless the Tigers inbound and hit a desperation 3 to win the game. Vols probably should have left the blocks vacant but hindsight is 20-20. The announcers thought it was a lane violation at first but then noted the official signaling the number to the scorer for a foul.

Perfect bank shot; PS wins. Just watched that. You have to see the replay to grasp how unreal that ending was. I'm guessing NAU doesn't have a jumbotron hanging over mid-court because that pass must've gone 40 feet in the air. Trent Tucker 2.0 -- basically a volleyball play.

It's their football stadium; ergo a real high ceiling.
Ivy League race is interesting. Princeton and Yale at 9-3; Brown and Penn at 6-4; Cornell and Dartmouth at 5-5. First 4 make the conference tournament, which is at Princeton this year.
The Crimson/Johnnies/which-ever-you-prefer are toast.

This Portland-Pepperdine game from a week ago was crazy too. Meant to post it earlier.

The game accounts show it as a lane violation and the box score says "turnover". I think #11 touched the line before the ball was released, therefore the signal. Don't think a foul would have wiped out a successful foul shot. And wouldn't Mizzou have gone to the line down the other end regardless? Wasn't an offensive foul.

#12 for Portland, Kristian Sjolund, should think long and hard about the final five seconds of the game:
1) Why even put yourself in a position to touch the Pepperdine player who was going in for a meaningless layup with less than two seconds remaining? It would have made it a one point game with about a second left.
2) Why swing your elbows like that after getting the rebound off the missed free throw? Game is over if he doesn't do that.
3) Serves him right that he was the defender who had the lob go right over his head on the inbound.

When I was a kid in the late 70s/early 80s, the Fordham student section was called Section 8. They all had maroon Section 8 shirts and were very enthusiastic. “What the hell’s a Jasper?” and “Eat me, Iona” were two chants I brought home to my very unhappy mother.

Some kid held up a huge sign last week that just said "U-ASS".
Fordham football team seems to be well represented at most of the games. They were honored at halftime on Wednesday for their NCAA appearance. A few of the players have been wearing their Fordhan helmets in the stands every game.
