In that game Ron Artest joined our HC section to sit with Jave's parents, friends from Highbridge in Queens Believe that Jave made an appearance in one of Artest's rap albums. Bet you didn't know that one, hoops! That must be the Artest album I do not have. Saw Artest play in HS. Even as a soph, he was a man among boys. my son played summer League and 5 star with Jave. A terrific person.

It's too bad our OOC schedule wasn't a bit more challenging that year. At 26-4, one would think we should have received a better seed than a 14. Dado, uncanny timing with your previous post about Jave's rapping abilities... ha, must have beaten you by a second! from one who had a hip hop show on wchc, artest (and jave) could actually flow a little bit and the production on that track was pretty solid. i thought we were a little underseeded as a 14 that year. you would have thought back-to-back closes losses in the ncaa tournament and a win over a pretty good bc team that year would have bought us some credibility, but getting annihilated at kansas and an otherwise weak sos (pl was really weak that year, iirc) probably didn't help our seeding.

If we are going off of Pomeroy, we were the highest ranked 14 that year with a ranking of 66. The other 14s were Bobby Gonzalez'a Manhattan Jaspers (70), Troy (100), and Colorado State (101).
Austin Peay, with a record of 20-7 and ranking of 135, received a 13.
HC had a better Pomeroy ranking than four teams, yet had a worse seed. Obviously, Pomeroy isn't the be all end all, but it's interesting to look at years after the fact.
Central Michigan had a 68 Pomeroy ranking and received an 11 seed.

I bet that some of the selection committee were reps of the conferences that Central Michigan and Austin Peay were in.

Jave was SO 'effen good. I'm getting wistful thinking about the talent on that squad. Damn... Loved Jave's game and always enjoyed his post game interviews with Bob Fouracre.
