Having chlldren who graduated in 2003 and 2006, I can say that up to then, the standards had not changed since 1967.

I do not know about the situation today. At one time HC was an academically rigorous, extremely demanding college allegedly on a par with the toughest LACs in the country. It is difficult for me to think of HC in any other way. But, maybe, it has lightened up the academic load in recent decades. my best friend growing up went to Harvard--a legacy. Undoubtedly we had a tougher workload, more reading, and more rigorous grading in the Poli Sci department than he had at Harvard (studying Gov I believe). In the 2000s I believe Harvard was known as being more difficult to get into than the actual courses. A friend from HC went to the Sloan school at MIT and that almost broke him it was so difficult.

Speaking of Harvard, don't they have a pretty good senior DL who is looking for a new home for a 5th year? Would HC take a flyer on a 5th year just to attend classes for one semester? I had a colleague mention it to me, but given the lack of a grad school and such I don't know if anyone would do that. My guess is those guys from FCS looking for a 5th year would pick somewhere with a grad school or try and get an FBS offer.
In other news Sac State's top RB, Cameron Skattebo has entered the portal following the departure of their head coach. He is a sophomore.

I've had children graduate from Dartmouth, Georgetown, and Holy Cross
By far the most academically rigorous? Holy Cross

These numbers are pretty staggering:

I would like to see the final numbers in July or August and learn how many gave up the opportunity to play at their current school and, in the end, found themselves without a school in the fall. Naturally, grad transfers need to be excluded, but if it is anything like basketball, you must scratch your head and ask who is advising these players.

HC would absolutely NOT take a 5th year grad transfer 'just to attend classes' for obvious reasons

Mass. Gov. Charlie Baker is the new head of the NCAA. Maybe he can fix the transfer portal mess.

The heir apparent to DeMorat at Fordham, Grant Wilson, entered the Transfer Portal and has committed to FBS Old Dominion.
From the reaction on the Fordham Board, this is a significant loss.

Hard to figure why someone would leave a fine Jesuit school, and with an opportunity to play, for ODU. Many years ago I lived in VA. Beach for a few years and it was generally understood that ODU's sole admission criterion was that you had to be breathing.

Wilson is from Virginia and the Fordham OC (Kevin Decker) left to become the OC at ODU.

It doesn't matter where he gets a Masters. Next step will, and should be, based on football.

Grant Wilson, is entering his senior year in 9/23. He saw zero action his freshman yr & 3 games his sophomore yr. So he has at least two yrs in front of him at ODU and possibly three. He followed his Fordham OC (Kevin Decker) to ODU. One can imagine how Ram faithful feel about their OC bolting and taking Demorat's heir apparent with him. There were reports on TWTR today that Ram HC Conlin was making an in-home visit to a Wisconsin (Big 10) QB who has entered the portal. That young man saw little to no time as a Badger and with a new coach entering one can assume he saw the writing on the wall.

Congratulations to Walter Reynolds on his commitment to Ohio University. He made his mark on the Crusader football program over these last number of years. Wish him all the best during his final year of eligibility at Ohio.

Interesting little read. Coach Hafley at BC had similar comments about the transfer portal recently. Basically, if a kid enters the transfer portal and doesn't find a suitor, there's no guarantee his current team will take him back (Roster spot could get filled.) If that happens, the kid often loses his scholarship altogether or takes a partial at a D2.

Nothing wrong with looking for a new opportunity or in coming back if nothing materializes. Only thing that was unprofessional was that childish (but no doubt funny) TikTok video that I'm sure his coaches have seen by now.

Jake Reichwein to Villanova (I think). Great get for the Wildcats, although I hope we don’t see him in the playoffs down the road!

Good fit for a guy from Eastern PA. Wonder what grad degree he will pursue.
