Looked up Kosmalski.
Here’s what I learned.
From the first season after my birth (1970-71) through 2011-12, Swarthmore had a total of 5 winning seasons with most seasons yielding single digit wins. In 2011-12, they won three games. They fired their coach and hired Kosmalski. Since then, their win totals have been:
7, 8, 11, 22, 23, 25, 29, 28, N/A, 22.

If Landry wants another challenge, I have just the job from him.
We aren’t the only D1 school who knows of Landry and what he’s accomplished at Swathmore.
My fear is that he wouldn’t be interested in HC.
Caro, why don’t you like this guy?

Are you kidding? This guy coached at the highest levels on the planet for college basketball, and doesn't need to work again a day in his life. Why not hire Pat Reilly? Why not reanimate Red Auerbach while we're operating in fantasy land.

sign Beilein or another proven HC Make immediate changes to address the needs of the program which have been neglected for years improve the OOC schedule sign a talented player that is looking for the Holy Cross life experience get back to being a respected basketball program get the heck out of the PL, so the bus trips to Hamilton aren't required

Many here are dismissing Gallagher because he had a overall losing record. It was at UHart! A mostly commuter school with basketball facilities rivaling a mediocre high school., and a place I doubt anyone here would consider attending. With that, it took a few years but he turned them into a winner. He made chicken salad out of chicken sheet there. HC struggled with them every game. The guy guy can flat out coach. Ask any coach that played them.

Getting someone that can coach and knows how to build a winning program is a priority, but if we are trying to fix this for the next few decades, we need someone who is a great fit for Holy Cross. If that is Gallagher - terrific But I am not sure whether it is or isn't the cse

Nelson loses this weekend vs CCSU (0-8) and it should be over on the spot. RJ takes the reigns for the remainder of the season. Kit & presumably a search firm have ample time to target coaching candidates across the country. The program is a complete dumpster fire, but should be attractive to potential candidates if given a lengthy deal. Genuinely believe that HC can win regularly in the PL with the resources at our disposal. Find a coach that can deliver on the recruiting trail, develop talent & cultivate a competitive, winning culture that kids want to be apart of.

I am guessing he had opportunities to parlay his success at Hartford, (I am sure people in the biz noticed what he did there even though the record is less than stellar), but he remained at Hartford. He just might stick around at HC even if he won here.

You will need a coach with name recognition initially. This program is too far gone at this point to bring in an assistant. Spend the $$. If you took all the $$$ you wasted on the 4 coach’s since RW, could have brought in a big name proven HC at the D1 level.

Unless there has been a sea change at HC, I just don't see the college spending big bucks to bring in a new bball coach. Plus you would have to find someone who would command big bucks to be interested in a low D1 program. Actually a bottom of the barrel D1 program. That is a sobering thought.

If we're willing to consider long-time D-1 assistants, I'd look at Luke Murray (UConn) or Brian Blaney (Providence). This approach hasn't been too successful for us, so I'd be more inclined to search for a HIGHLY successful D-2 or D-3 head coach.
I can't imagine that there is a successful D-1 head coach who would have any interest in coming to Worcester.

Not that there is any right or proven formula for hiring a coach (I've often said "a good coach is a good coach is a good coach" and it doesn't matter where that guy has been and what boxes he checks), but it's worth looking at the previous four hires, which have all failed. Each fall in one of two categories:
1) Assistant / associate head coach at a P5 school -- Kearney, Nelson
2) Former / current D1 head coach -- Brown, Carmody
With coach number five since 2009, give me the guy who has won, regardless of level. Who is a coach first (developer of talent, X's and O's guy), recruiter second. Who has an understanding of the Holy Cross experience and what a successful student-athlete looks like. We don't need a big, flashy name. In fact, I think guys like Crean and Beilein would be pretty average at HC.
The Chesney model worked well for us. Who is the basketball version of Chesney?
