I don’t have a subscription but can anyone get the details here? I assume this is FBS:
“A new era: Rose Bowl officials agreed late last night to clear the way for a 12-team College Football Playoff in the 2024 season.”

It's probably not for PL/NEC superiority.

ESPN has an article. The Rose Bowl wanted a Guarantee they would have a 4 PM time slot on New Year’s Day. The article didn’t say what the Rose Bowl agreed to but it sounds like they caved to make sure they’d be part of the CFP.

For a brief fleeting moment I thought Holy Cross would be playing in Pasadena instead of Frisco!

Maybe they got "Rose Bowl" confused with "Yale Bowl" and the PL/Ivy Pipe Dream Bowl has been resuscitated.

The way I read it, the first round would be the weekend before Christmas (or even the weekend before that) at the 5-8 seed's stadium (that could bring about a winter wonderland game every once in a while).
Then the quarterfinals at 4 of the 6 traditional New Year's bowl sites on or about January 1; followed by the semis and finals at 2 of the other 6 sites (they'd rotate).
Wonder if the 7th site is going to be up for grabs or one of the NY 6 will get two games.
